i have a problem with my gateway 4650, it wont start but beeps 3 times fan runs processor fan runs..im told by some it may be a dust problem, since that may make sense seeing i bought 10 of them on a dusty pallet.. do some of you concur , or do you know anything about these gateways with the intel mothrbrds... they take rambus memory which is a pain... --- On Wed, 4/22/09, Andy Lindeman <alin...@gmail.com> wrote:

I work on the same machine. We have 24 of them. It should be a simple RAM reset, and a bios flash. The motherboards sometimes, they don't flush the ram properly causing it to not start, and sometimes it's the bios. Make sure that you were up to date on the firmware. Mail me with your specs and I can better analyze.

ok, i am going to give 1 a good cleaning tommorrow. im not sure abt flashing the bios seeing that the machine must start and boot to accomplish this. I will remove and clean the ram sticks and slots as you requested. I have already removed bios battery and re inserted to get tit to go to its default , but no luck there..will know more or less after i give one of them a good cleaning. I cant believe all on that skid were rejected for the same problem. All came from ICC. They are dumping their gateways since Micron went belly up as well as their warranty....just a footnote. do you have access to the drivers for these boards. I have al the drivers you need I'll mail them to you when I get to work tomorrow. If they all have the same problem. It might have been some of their proprietary server programs that are looking for something in the network before it starts? I don't know what it could be if they are all doing it??? I can get you anything you need if you can get them up. I even have access to hardware spare parts. We scrap them after they log 1250 hours running. Just let me know what you need.

well i am at a complete loss. i cleaned mb pulled all mem sticks cleaned and reinserted. even tried a new vid card. There is power on the board, cd, and hard drive are running. Suggests needs a bios flash or a  reset... cant seem to find any jumpers to reset it on the board though...model=p04 4650..serial 0026731558...large number on mb by one of the heat sinks is e210882...on the other side mic in a circle then checkmark as a logo then n232...there is a long string of numbers on a sticker between the ram chips i might can get you if u need..ne specs avail?.. I can salvage these comps/ lot of vid cards 40 gig drives cd the rambus chips are prob worthless.  I thought about putting a new mb on this chassis as the power  supply and all are still ok. ....any advice about a mother board to replace this one would be helpful.

ok i figured it out, with some help from icc guys..the chips i have for these systems are actually "filler" chips that go in the unused slots where the real ram is not available. i need at least 1 matching pair of rambus chips to fire the system, so do you have any rambus u can send me? i need at least 2 to get going ..mynumber is 662-862-6443

Let me check. I'm working at home today. I'll be in Starkville Tuesday and Wednesday. I couldn't fed ex them today anyway. I know I have 16 pairs (according to the system). I can give you 8. Is that enough? To float you?

well you dont have to really do that. i want 2 @128 so i can test/start these systems for resale. will sell 1 then build more is my plan. are you proposing to sell these to me? I would want more after an initial 2 and pending sales, realistically i should have 4 @128 so i can keep moving them if i get buyers. I am not familiar with rambus ram and so was completely fooled by the blanks I though they were ram...

 I need to first make sure the on hand is right the wing nuts that work for me mess the count up all the time. They think they are spare parts, who cares. If we don't have any. I'll scrap one for you to get started, and then get some more over the next week or so. If that is o.k.  This is not time sensitive is it? I might have to wait a week for the others. You can send your "Addy" or I can meet you in town I have business those two days, or you can come by our office in Starkville. I just don't want to be out postage. I will get them from the office Monday and then call you Tuesday and set something up. I will probably go to the meeting Wednesday. I want to talk Linux. I just installed Ubuntu 9.04, on a desktop I built and a d.s.l. thin client on two machines on my home network for easy media transfers over the network (avi files to any TV in the house.) Nobody around cares about Linux. My son thinks that mythbuntu is cool, but he doesn't get Linux. I got him a Leveno Notebook and put Yellow Dog on it, on the count it has a cell processor. I want to meet people into it. Learn......

This is what bothers me abt linux. I use wireless at home, and like to spend some idle time occasionaly playing high end pc games. Wireless technology does not redily lend itself to linux connectivity.. and no way to play gaming on linux yet . I think, right now a dual boot to a linux product would be best for a chance at increasing it's use among pc ers. Linux web surfing is the way to go completely away from windows. also like a OS that offesr a windows option inside Linux. In other words got to windows module from linux without a reboot.

He is still in the hospital. He is doing better. Soon, he will be in rehab center. Soon after that going home.  I thank you for the concern.
