Hi Guys, here is the program Dani Gudroe was talking about at the
meeting regarding personality assessments. It would be great if we
could offer this as our standard for the dogs we take in. I can't
wait to read more!

We should also consider if we want to microchip our dogs (for safety? for proof that this is one of our adopted-out dogs?) and if we might be able to get a chip company to pay for our chips?

I was thinking around $150 for an adult dog and $250 for a puppy, $75 for a senior.  I do think we should find a way to microchip them. (I know first hand why it is a good thing)

I propose that we offer:
Sterilization (on puppies under 8 weeks we have a spay/neuter contract)
Up to date on all shots (All that you think are necessary Jennie)
Microchip
Temperament Evaluation
A packet of literature
And perhaps one vet visit within the first 6 months (with you Jennie, up to you if you want to do this, its not essential but may be a good way to follow up with the homes and maybe business for your clinic)

(I also wonder if we could have an incentive if an adopter then agrees to be a foster home within the year of adopting a dog. Maybe we can refund them a portion of their adoption fee or something?)

Thoughts?

Just one thing to note - we aren't able to place puppies under 8 weeks of age.  We can take them into foster, but I believe it's illegal.. something to ask Katie?  Either way, I don't think they should be placed before being fixed.  BHS tried s/n certificates and 30% of the people never used them.. Plus, less follow up for us to have to do!

It is illegal to place them before 8 weeks (foster is ok, no adopting out).

The Boston rescue I work with has them signing a contract agreeing to fix. They also get a refund once they follow through.  It has had great success with this.  The benefit of puppies is that we can ask more for them which can make up for asking less for the ones with expensive medicals.  I think we should be open for discussion on this point.  Especially it we we get a pregger momma some time.

I'm definitely up for puppies, but no adopting out until 8 weeks.. Jennie, will you spay them that young?  If not then definitely with the contract because we want them to go to good homes, but if they can be done that young then I think we should try! :)
