Listers,

Am about out of WST which I use for my .45 acp wad pistol. But I do have a large 8 pounder (not quite full) of WSF. I realize it is not as fast burning as WST, but can I use it for my .45 acp? I have been using 4.2 gr. of WST behind my 200 gr. lswc bullets with excellent results. (Chrono about 812 fps) How much would I use with WSF? My guess is about 5.2 gr.? Does that sound dangerous? Can’t find WST anywhere. Thanks for your help.

The chart shown on http://www.reloadbench.com/burn.html gives you the "relative burn rate" for various powders.
WSF is slow compared to the usual choices...maybe okay for ball loads.
Being safe while being accurate is paramount.

Here are some WSF loads with 200 gr bullets.  It looks like your starting load of 5.2 would be fine.

Hi Novak,

I have a winchester reloading manual (rev 15) listing WSF at 6.0gr to 6.7gr for a 200gr lead SWC.  For comparison the same manual lists WST at 4.4gr to 5.1gr for the same bullet.  I've tried WSF down to 5.5gr -- 200gr cast -- Sig autoloader -- and found it a little too light to function -- 5.7gr was required for that gun.  Never used it in my wad pistol.
