Any big differences that would get you to choose one over the other? I am shooting a 215 right now but want to get one with a two stage trigger.

I have a 208 and a 208s and the only difference that I see is that the 208 s has a safety.

Is the question 208 vs 208S or is it 280 vs 208?

207, 208, 208S and 215 are essentially the same gun with different features. The most important difference is the 207 and 208 have single stage triggers and the 208S and 215 (I think) have an adjustable 2 stage triggers. Safeties were only fitted to US versions of the guns.

The 280 is a completely different gun, but I have no experience with it.

There are lots of 207/8/15 guns out there and Larry Carter is supporting them with many spare parts. I don't know about support for the 280. I don't think nearly as many were sold.

Both of my 208's are US versions but only the 208s has a safety.

James,
The 280 has a forward magazine and is made from a non-metallic material.
it was also produced in .32SWL and can be readily changed. It has a
slanted Euro-grip and It is out of production, being replaced by the SP20.

The attraction of the 208/208s is that the grip angle approximates the
1911 and has become the choice of many NRA BE shooters (also out of
production).

Larry, do you really mean that "NRA BE shooters" are out of production?  Are we ALL so old that we are not having any more children??  VBG

The 215 is just like the 208 with only cosmetic differences. Both the 208 and the 215 come in 1 and 2 stage triggers. Both also come in the S models with an adjustable trigger. Get yourself either one with a 2 stage trigger. Once you can afford a second 2 stage for backup sell the 1 stage 215. Right now for rim fire I use a 208 and a 215 for backup, both 2 stage. If you are looking to buy I’d suggest RoCo Firearm Technology. http://www.rocosystem.com/ Doris is very helpful and supports us at Camp Perry.

I appreciate all the replies. It has helped me with making a decision. To clarify I was asking about the hammerli 280 compared to the 208s. The 280 is the model where the magazine is in front of the trigger.
