NEWS & EVENTS

3 DEMOCRATS HONORED AT ITALIAN-AMERICAN EVENT IN MATAWAN

HonoreesMATAWAN – 100 Democrats from throughout New Jersey joined Congressman Frank Pallone & Congressman Bill Pascrell at the La Riviera Restaurant in Matawan for the Monmouth County Democrats' Italian-American Luncheon honoring Democratic elected officials and celebrating the important tradition of Italian-Americans in Democratic leadership roles throughout Monmouth County and New Jersey.

The honorees at this inaugural event were Mayor Fred Tagliarini of Aberdeen (pictured center), Council President Frank LaRocca of Marlboro (left) & Councilwoman Kathy Arata Horgan of Red Bank (right). Surrounded by his family and Township Committeemembers, Mayor Tagliarini remarked on how the emotion of dedicating a memorial to a fallen young Aberdeen soldier earlier in the day reminded him of what is truly important in being an elected official.

Honored Guest Bill Pascrell spoke to the enduring patriotism and sacrifice of Italian-Americans both on the battlefield and in the Democratic Party. "I get offended when one party or group tries to corner the market on patriotism. Italian-Americans were the largest American immigrant group to fight in Europe in World War II. And, they were not just Republicans, but there Democrats that paid the ultimate price as well."

Congressman Frank Pallone, acting as Master of Ceremonies, spoke of his own Calabrese heritage and how his great-grandparents were poor migrant farmers in Southern Italy before they emigrated to the America. He stated how the honorees are a testament to the work ethic of his ancestors. "It's an honor to award these three public servants who have done such a fine job representing Italian-Americans, not just in Monmouth County, but in New Jersey."

Monmouth Democrats Executive Director Giuseppe "Joe" Grillo welcomed the attendees by remarking on how the Italian-American experience is an essential component of the Democratic Party's philosophy. "The Italians who came to America brought with them a moral foundation of faith, family and responsibility - not just for one's self, but for one's community, and that has become the keystone of our philosophy as sons & daughter of immigrants, as Americans, and as Democrats."

Monmouth County Democratic Chairman Vin Gopal praised the three honorees for their service and commitment to the party. Chairman Gopal added that, due to its resounding success and popularity in its inaugural year, the Monmouth County Democratic Organization is making the Italian-American luncheon a permanent annual event.

THE MYSTERY OF THE DISAPPEARING DEMOCRATIC LAWN SIGNS IN HOWELL
Field
HOWELL - Political Lawn Signs in support of Democratic candidates for Mayor William Field and Township Committee Suzanne Wolff have been disappearing from Howell’s byways.  Signs posted on private property in the northern parts of Howell have been taken from Five Points Road, Casino Drive, and Asbury Avenue. Elsewhere, lawn signs have been taken from outside the Villages Development, off Wyckoff Mills Rd and Ft. Plains Rd. In each case, signs in support of Republicans Bill Gotto and Ed Guz have been left un-touched.

Democratic candidate William Field says, "It is clear that this is because the Republicans have no record to stand on. Empty storefronts, an expensive permitting process to open new businesses, $12 million in debt, and preferential treatment for the GOP's political friends may be costing the Republicans the mayoral election, so it is clear that "someone" is trying to silence the Howell Democrats' momentum."

Field added, "The Republican record since Comimitteeman Bill Gotto joined the Howell Township Committee council in 2009 is atrocious: Town spending is up 7% since 2009; The municipal tax levy is up 28% since 2009; Municipal debt service costs are up 46% since 2009, and just last Friday, the Township CFO announced a new $7.5 million Anticipation Bond for purposes unknown. In the 2nd-largest municipality in Monmouth County, this amounts to tens of thousands of people being lied to by their elected officials. As mayor, this incompetence and lack of transparency will stop under my watch."

Note: It is ILLEGAL to tamper with, steal or destroy a lawn sign. If you see anyone stealing, destroying or defacing a Lawn Sign, please call the Monmouth County Democrats office ASAP at 732-739-8888 and report it to the local police.
