Hey all,

I was out of town for two weeks until this past Monday.  I definitely enjoyed the happy hour and would like to maintain whatever momentum was generated there.  A couple ideas for things to do came up and I wanted to see how much interest there was in participating / organizing.  Feel free to chime in with your thoughts.
1) A range day.  I forget exactly which range it was proposed to do this at, but I believe it was somewhere in the East Bay.
2) A weekend to learn field-dressing and quartering, including doing both with an actual animal purchased for the occasion.
I would certainly be interested in both.  As a novice, I can't contribute much in terms of expertise, but am glad to help in terms of logistics, planning, finance etc.
3) Additional happy hours.  Should we put one on the calendar for Tuesday July 9 or 16th?

Additionally, I am likely headed to PRGC Saturday to shoot trap.  Arrival time is flexible, but I need to be done by 2:00.  If you're interested in joining, email me.

See ya,

Paul

Paul -

I can lend the field dressing expertise (don't know if I would call myself an "expert", but I have over 20 years of experience at it), if you can handle the logistics.

Also, I would enjoy joining everyone at a Happy Hour event; Tuesdays are better than Wednesdays, but I could probably make either happen.

I love the range day idea and the field dressing idea.  I know where we can purchase a lamb (in the spring).  My brother in law (also a hunter) and I have purchased lambs from this ranch and then slaughtered and dressed them right there on the ranch.  As long as the group is small that might work for the springtime.  The ranch is in west Sonoma county.

Personally, I like San Leandro Rifle and Pistol Range.  They are easy to get to, and not nearly as crowded as Chabot.  They are also good on safety.

I'd love to do a range day as well - Paul, if you'd like to do another one, we should plan on it!
Field dressing day would be great.
It seems like July 9th might come up too soon to plan, if there's not a lot of response for the July 16th one (I'll be out of town), maybe we can shoot for the first week of August? Pun not intended!

Can we do Wednesday instead of Tuesday for happy hour?  Let's say 6:30 on Wednesday 7/17 if people think that works.

As for the range day idea, is that something best done on a Saturday or Sunday?  Do any of the people who are really interested have a preference?  San Leandro works for me.

Thanks Fred and Steve for offering help on field dressing.  Does anyone know where we could get an animal before next spring (say, in the next couple months)?  Anyone have an idea of where we would even conduct such an event?

Thanks.

I am also happy to help out with the field dressing side of things. Might be good to talk about gutting, quartering, packing meat out of the woods, boning out meat, etc. Let me know how I can help.

Dave
