Mike,
I saw that turnout - thanks for confirming that's the parking spot.
As far as Cedar Roughs - I had no idea the creek was going to be so
full, so I was completely unprepared with footwear. Luckily, I
usually bring lots of socks. I crossed the stream in just a pair of
socks after tying my boots to my pack, and tried not to think about
how cold it was. On the other side, I put on dry socks and continued
on my way after warming up a bit. I do NOT recommend this tactic.
Next time I will bring rubber knee boots to cross the creek and then
hide them under a bush or something until I leave.
Also, you should know that there are signs posted at the entrance "no
firearms" and "no hunting." These are from the Bureau of Reclamation,
which oversees a sliver of territory right by the road before you get
to the DFG and BLM land (think we have too many gov't agencies?).
Anyway, you can either just hike in with no gun, or if you want to
actually hunt you need a signed pass from Bureau of Reclamation to
carry a firearm across their land. You can get it from these guys
(
http://www.usbr.gov/mp/ccao/berryessa/contact.html) either in person
at their office in Napa or by faxing your hunting license and drivers
license over, and having them fax the pass back to you. That's what I
did. The pass is free. Just another reason there aren't a lot of
hunters out there.
