When I looked in device manager to see if I could update the driver of that adapter, I noticed that WAN miniports IPv6, IP and network adapter all had the yellow exclamation marks. I figured maybe this was the root cause of my issue so I tried to update the drivers of these. long story short after searching around for ages I came across this page. Then after following the steps here, I thought I'd resolved the issue as in the cmd window it looked as though it was all peachy as the commands appeared to have all been executed. on rebooting my computer it said that drivers had been updated successfully... 'sweet' I thought. But no, still no dice. So when I reopened the device manager I found that the WAN miniports now had their name plus #2 on the end although the unnumbered (?) ones are not present. I definitely only ran the devcon.exe once for each miniport and rebooted my system, as per the instructions. Does anybody know if there is a way back from this or am I basically screwed? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If I click on the network icon on the taskbar, it will bring up the charms window ( if that's what it's called ... ) which shows me all of the network connections available. I'm able to connect to different network without an issue, but when I click on a VPN connection the window just seems to hang. Investigation shows that there is an issue with the WAN miniport drivers ( see screenshot below ).

It seems that all of the WAN miniport drivers are loaded when I try & connect using a VPN, and the error messages point to Windows not being able to load them for some reason. It's interesting that I wasn't able to uninstall the WAN Miniport (SSTP) - it just wouldn't go. Seems to me that this could be a key to getting my system fixed. Any ideas how I can force the system to remove this miniport ?

I too experienced this issue across multiple systems I have here on site. It has something to do with a windows update that foobar the working windows driver. Yes all of these systems were working just like David (OP) states, then one day.. no joy. Dreading the rebuild to fix this issue and I thought that I found the magic pill...

After downloading and running said fix I wasn't able to get my miniports up and running again. Then I happened to push the limits of my tweaking skills and fubared the system I was trying to repair. So I re-installed windows 8.1 and tested my pptp vpn connection and I was cooking with FIRE! Right now, I'm just waiting for all of the updates to come down and cross things up one more time with this system.

Just yesterday I wanted to upgrade the SSD and along with it why not try Windows 10 once more? I installed the Jan 2017 Build of windows 10 (fresh install). I then proceeded to install the drivers, all the Windows 8.1 drivers installed fine. Finally I was left with one unidentified PCI device which happened to be the card-reader, installing drivers for this presented me with how a perfect world be like - zero unidentified devices.

After successfully installing WIN10 on my iMac-Pro without BOOTCAMP, I was able to manually install the windows support(BOOTCAMP) drivers, and all of them work fine. Except the Ethernet Controller Driver, and that really bothers me since I'm not a fan of WiFi.

He was talking about manually installing the drivers. I did the same thing with my regular 2013 iMac. What am I supposed to do if the same thing is happening for me but for wifi and audio? I can hear my mac if I plug something into the 3.5 mm port but otherwise the speakers won't play anything and my wifi isnt working either. It shows no connections and I tried so many Broadcom drivers and a couple Atheros drivers for it. I saw someone use Atheros 938x and that driver installed and didn't give a message about the controller unable to be turned on. So I'll work with that. For ethernet, maybe try some Atheros ethernet drivers. Don't use the folder, go in device manager and select ethernet controller and right click it to update the driver. Then manually select drivers (don't use windows update or the driver search) and scroll for the ethernet controller drivers and try Atheros folder and Broadcom Connections Inc. or whatever it's called.

Wide Area Network, also known as WAN Miniport driver, is related to a driver software that helps as an alternative connection for facilitating network in your Windows PC. You have to ensure your WAN Miniport is updated if you are looking for a faster and smoother experience with your internet connection. However, sometimes there is an issue with WAN Miniport, and you have to look for a fix wan Miniport driver issues in windows os.

WAN Miniport Yellow exclamation mark on Device Manager means that the corresponding miniport driver cannot be loaded by Windows (Code 31). When Code 31 error occurs on a WAN miniport adapter, then, at the device's status, you will receive the following error message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)".

Wan network miniport drivers are Windows hardware drivers, which are commonly used by VPΝ and other network services. The WAN miniport drivers are hidden in device manager, but if they have problems (e.g. if they haven't been correctly installed or their drivers are corrupted) are displayed with a yellow exclamation sign under Network Adapters group. In this case you have to uninstall and re-install them, in order to work properly.

I am trying to update the firmware on some devices. This has me plugging the USB Stick into a windows computer to be used in a separate update software. Setting the software aside, when I plug the stick in, windows is not recognizing it correctly in Windows Device Manager. Has anyone had to get updated windows drivers for their USB Stick? Any advice?
