OBITUARY:
Dr Elka Simeonova, Senior Lecturer in the Department of English and
American Studies, University of Veliko Turnovo, died on 10 November
2007.
Dr Simeonova was a diligent scholar and dedicated teacher. She
specialised in contemporary British literature. Her Ph. D.
dissertation, which she defended successfully in June 2005, focused on
the postmodernist novel and provided insightful readings of key texts
by Martin Amis, Graham Swift, Eva Figes, Ian McEwan and Jeanette
Winterson. Throughout her career Dr Simeonova took part in numerous
national and international conferences. Her articles appeared in
prestigious Bulgarian and foreign academic publications. She served on
examination boards and conference organising committees. Her public
lectures at the University of Prešov, Slovakia, and the University of
Wolverhampton, UK, were highly appreciated by her peers.
The Veliko Turnovo Department of English and American Studies has lost
a beloved teacher and capable scholar. Dr Simeonova will be fondly
remembered by her colleagues and students for her responsible attitude
to her work, dedication to academic excellence and personal warmth.
