Mix and match cabinets to dial in your tone. You can move mics from the middle to the edge of the speaker, front or back and even angle mics to get a beefier sound. Choose from 4 microphone options or load in your own IRs.

I am a newbie when it comes to using Amped Roots 2.0 and amp sims in general, so forgive me if this is an ignorant question. I have watched a lot of tutorials from various YouTubers, and they get an amazing guitar sound using Amped Roots 2.0 and the default settings. When I attempt to record in Reaper using the Amped Roots VST, my sound quality sounds very thin and weak. So, I did some searching on YouTube and downloaded the SpectreSoundStudios impulse response. That changed the tone of everything, but my guitar still sounds weak sounding.

Actually, it is both I am unhappy with. On the original recording the lead part is just screaming, my version sounds too tame, sweet even.
And that was not with Roots BTW - I think it was Sigma on lead and Nalex Crunchman / Amplex with JCM800 preset on rythm.

I think you are correct and what I need at the moment is to identify the issue and learn how to dial in the ampsims to actually sound usable.
So I think there is a lot I could learn from your workflow, as whatever I did does not work obviously.

The point to all of this is being able to record good sounding covers and eventually some original songs for my band.
And by good sounding I mean maybe not professional studio worthy, but as close as I can get. Like something that I could put on Spotify or YT without complaints or shame.

The amp included in the free edition of Amped Roots is called 5034 Fluff. The amp is designed for a modern metal sound. The amplifier sort of changed everything in terms of anything that involved sound. So it was invented in about 1912. Obviously, it amplified the human voice, so notably radio, television and movies, but after World War II, it got put into music. So all of those things are very sort of, I would call them early 20th century inventions, that changed music in America and in the world, and led to the invention of the music festival.

Son Volt's sixth studio LP, Honky Tonk, announces its intentions in the title, an album awash in pedal steel, twin fiddles, and Jay Farrar hearkening the classic style in sound and lyrics. While not a dramatic turn for the St. Louis quintet, it hews surprisingly closer to the origins of their definitive alt.country direction.

"Over the years, there's always been this kind of duality of the electric side and the acoustic side," notes Farrar. "This time I just wanted to focus on that particular fiddle and pedal steel guitar sound that was on the first record, Trace.

Farrar has increasingly managed the fine line between homage and contemporizing on his recent high-profile projects with Ben Gibbard (2009's Jack Kerouac-inspired One Fast Move or I'm Gone) as well as Jim James, Will Johnson, and Anders Parker (last year's Woody Guthrie tribute, New Multitudes). Add Farrar's own forays into learning steel guitar with St. Louis honky-tonkers Colonel Ford, and the Bakersfield sound seems an inevitable influence to seep into Son Volt's aesthetic.

Meanwhile, Douglas turned into a mentor of sorts for Mumford & Sons after playing with them early on at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Discussing their sound, he's adamant about what they sound like and why they're special.

For vocals, I tried to get out of Synthesizer V Kevin as much as possible. And I tried to make Synthesizer V Solaria to sound like a wicked lady. I don't know whether I was successful, but it was nice practice with the editor anyway.

From childhood, a poem/rhyme "This Is the House That Jack Built" got stuck in my head. Interestingly, the roots of the rhyme are many centuries young. There are many variations / translations that have existed over the time. Here is mine, with contribution of Ray (rayc), who kindly agreed to play bass. All comments are welcomed. Thank you for listening!
