Sincethe release of Ghosts, splitscreen is only available on the PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U for local multiplayer, while PS3 and Xbox 360 can support one splitscreen player for online multiplayer and up to four players in local multiplayer.
In Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, when using split screen online, only one additional player can play, allowing two players to play on the same account. The screen is split in half horizontally, both players can rank up, but it only applies to the main player. When the second player signs out and signs back in, they'll start from the main player's current level, not from where they last ranked up. This also applies to Call of Duty: Black Ops II if the second player signs in as a guest rather than another profile.
If you're excited at the prospect of playing split screen in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, we've got good news: You can! Even better news is that it's a straightforward and easy task to accomplish. All you'll need to ensure is that you have two controllers and that both usernames have been linked to their own Activision accounts. Once you've scored both controllers and gotten your accounts squared away, though, you'll only need to follow a few simple steps to start playing together.
With those steps followed, you'll now be able to play split screen in any modes that allow it. Modes that are not supported include the campaign, Zombies, Ground War, Invasion, and Free-for-All -- but everything else should provide you and a buddy plenty of high-octane action. Have fun out there!
Elden Ring is well-known for being an immensely challenging game for newbies and veterans alike, offering perilous locations to traverse, difficult bosses to fell, and plenty of PvP action to keep you on your toes. The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion continues this trend with an all-new map full of deadly secrets and dangerous enemies, so you'll want to go into it at a high level to ensure you're well-prepared for everything it throws at you.
However, while levels will definitely help you out, managing your difficulty level in the Land of Shadow is not as simple as just boosting your stats. Instead, you'll need to round up Scadutree Fragments throughout this new realm to gain a blessing that improves your defensive and offensive capabilities. Here's everything you need to know.
How Scadutree Fragments work
You'll find Scadutree Fragments scattered around the map in key places, such as in legacy dungeons or near some Sites of Grace. As you gather these, you can take them to any Site of Grace and choose the new option that allows you to enhance your Shadow Realm Blessing. Each time you upgrade this blessing, you'll do more damage to foes while taking less damage from their attacks.
There's no denying that Elden Ring is a tough game with a lot of enemies and bosses that can really test your mettle. Luckily, alongside the ability to improve your weapons, you can also find a variety of Spirit Ashes that can be used to summon spirits to help you in battle. There are tons of these to choose from, and while some are objectively better than others at different things, even the worst ones can add a bit of extra survivability or damage output when you're in sticky situations.
While these Spirit Ashes can only be improved to level 10 in the base game, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion allows you to increase their damage and defense even further when finding and using Revered Spirit Ash. Here's everything you need to know about Revered Spirit Ash.
How Revered Spirit Ash works
You'll discover multiple Revered Spirit Ash throughout your journey in the Land of Shadow. As you find them, you can take them to any Site of Grace and select to enhance your Shadow Realm Blessing, granting your Spirit Ashes the ability to deal and take more damage in combat.

When playing online the first player plays fine but when a 2nd player goes to join they get stuck on "Generating World" "Building Terrain" screen for eternity. So split screen multiplayer no longer works as it used to a week ago. The first player plays fine all the while. I already have my xbox one setup as the Home xbox so the accounts should all be linked to the live account. Any suggestions/ideas greatly appreciated.
i spent a day on the phone with Xbox support who were more then happy to try and resolve the issue - we went through all setting with no luck and even reset the Xbox to factory settings, I had to reinstall everything but the problem remains.
I encountered this issue today on xbox one. Split screen player 2 was building terrain. I found their character in game but you couldn't hit them and you walked through them. I switched to creative mode and grabbed some potions of poison and harming. Swapped back to survival and hit their character ghost with both. It killed them and they respawnes jn their house without the issue. Hope this helps anyone else struggling!
Though the Call of Duty series has also moved beyond its inclusion of co-op modes which most of the earlier installments had in some capacity, it is worthwhile to take a look back at how valuable the feature was to bring friends to a local gathering together. Here are some of the best Call of Duty games that players can still boot up for some local split-screen co-op fun.
Updated on April 10, 2024, by Waseem Muhammad: Call of Duty as a video game series continues to grow in popularity. This is because, with every installment, the developers change the landscape and fully revamp the game based on what the community likes. They also focus heavily on extensive marketing campaigns, bringing in collaborations with celebrities and influencers.
The franchise has seen many installments throughout its time. Many games in the series are known for their cooperative offline mode that allows friends and families to play them either locally or via a network connection. Though not used by everyone, the Split-Screen is still a highly appreciated feature in the Call of Duty community. Not only does the Split-Screen exist for the Campaign, but it also allows players to try out the different modes and tackle the challenges together. This update adds a new Call of Duty split-screen entry as well as minor changes to the existing ones.
Looking back at the Call of Duty series, it's hard not to mention Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, as it marked a period of the franchise's full-blown attempt at a futuristic sci-fi setting. Thanks to a host of new gadgets, including hoverbikes and exoskeletons, Advanced Warfare introduced a degree of verticality that was seldom seen before in the popular shooter series. The fast-paced action and dynamic maneuverability breathed new life into the series and made the gunplay even more engaging. The futuristic setting, even though not appreciated by some of the community, the other half was pleased to have a new look in the Call of Duty franchise.
Although Advanced Warfare's cinematic campaign does not support split-screen co-op, friends can team up locally to take on challenges in the multiplayer and survival modes. It should be noted that the couch co-op support is only available for console players, and only up to two players can pair up locally.
The survival mode presented here is titled Exo Survival, which sees players battle against 25 rounds of increasingly powerful enemies to rank up gear and unlock more weapons. Players are equipped with an exoskeleton suit that gives them several traversal and mobility features. There are also loadouts available so players can customize them according to their playstyle. The game mode also offers maps with environmental hazards and different layouts, allowing players to understand the map and covers to use to their advantage. Playing the Exo Survival mode cooperatively alone is a good reason to pick up Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare!
The split-screen multiplayer support for Modern Warfare 2 (2022) is only available on consoles. What makes the two-player split-screen multiplayer so fun is the fact that players can try out online modes as well, including Search and Destroy and Team Deathmatch against other online players. The only exception is the Free-For-All mode, which is only accessible by playing solo.
Call of Duty: World At War was the first game in the series to have a co-op campaign, with Black Ops 3 being the only other game to have a full story mode with co-op support. While the PC version only allows online co-op or playing local co-op with the possibility of LAN, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty: World At War have support for local split-screen cooperative play for up to two players in the campaign and zombie mode of the game. The latter is unlocked after finishing the roughly seven-hour long story mode and points earned in either of these modes contribute towards racking up perks in the multiplayer mode of the game. Interestingly enough, World At War's inclusion of the zombie mode was a first for the series, and ever since then, it has become so popular and has continued to be part of subsequent installments in the COD franchise.
It is important to note that, unlike other installments in the Call of Duty series, World At War does not introduce any AI/CPU combatants in the local multiplayer mode, so there will just be one friend against another across the whole map.
A new addition in Modern Warfare 3 (2011) from its predecessor was a Survival mode within Spec Ops, which pits the two players against a wave of increasingly difficult enemy encounters. Survival mode incorporates the same maps as those in the multiplayer mode, so it can be a good way to learn the layout of the environments before heading for a more competitive experience.
