Assalamu alaikum warahmatullah,
There are times when you visit your Alma matter and you are proud to do so. I visited OAU last month and was happy to see many new developments - new lecture theaters, a new shopping complex, and several other new buildings. For example, just beside Faculty of Pharmacy is the new Museum of Natural History:
There were a few new lecture theaters (at least three), including this one that is almost completed between Faculty of Science and Moremi Hall:
When I went to the place that used to be Old Buka, I could hardly believe my eyes. It was all just grass and bush! So Old Buka can become history? Along with the amala, ewedu and gbegiri? It reminded me of the aayah in Surah Ar-Rahman (Kulu man alaiha faan - All that is on earth will perish!). Same with the shopping complex in front of Akintola Hall along with AlFatiha Ventures and the White House shopping complex beside Moremi Hall, etc. A huge site has been created for all such shops just behind the "new Buka":
During my visit, I had something doing at the Secretariat (Senate) building. I peeped out of the window on the 3rd floor and behold! A beautiful sight! Here's what I saw:
Can you see what made my heart jump with joy? Do you notice a golden dome in the distance behind the Sports Complex? Here is a closer look:
You can see the bus stop at the bottom left, Road 1, and a big building with a green roof behind the sports complex. That's the OAU Masjid with its golden dome. You can see the Masjid from the main campus! Imagine what you'll see when the two tall minarets are completed!
I thanked Allah from the bottom of my heart for His blessing of Islam. I am very happy to be a part of making the OAU Masjid project a reality. I'm also happy for so many brothers and sisters who have contributed to make this
dream a reality. I look forward to the minarets and wonder how I would feel when next I visit OAU. When next you visit Ile-Ife, remember to enjoy the views.
