OAU MASJID: A DREAM COMING TRUE

Assalamu alaikum warahmatullah,

On Friday 9th of May, hundreds of brothers and sisters, including several OAU Alumni, prayed Jumuah together INSIDE the new OAU Masjid. Yes, inside! Alhamdulillah, a dream of 28 years is finally coming true! The effort started even before the foundation laying ceremony in 1986, but all Praise is due to Allah, in 2014, the Imam stood in front of the congregation right INSIDE the masjid!

We wish to thank all donors who have made this dream a reality. Several years of Ramadhan fundraising and collective effort of mostly OAU Alumni as well as the building committee on ground all led to a happy day that Friday. Please see some pictures by clicking here.

But the journey is not over yet. As you can see in the pictures, some areas are not completed. The walls are not painted. The wudhu areas need more work. Electrical work is not finished, etc. Your support is still needed to move from construction to full utilization. Specifically, we request you to:

1. If you did not pray there last Friday with other alumni, please visit the Masjid when next you are in Ile-Ife or in Nigeria.

2. If you have not fulfiled your pledge from last year's fund raising effort, please do so immediately before Ramadhan starts in a few weeks.

3. Join us for another round of Ramadhan fundraising which we are dubbing "Race to the Finish Line" inshaAllah.

May Allah accept all that we do for His sake and reward us all even in ways we do not expect.

إِنَّمَا يَعْمُرُ مَسَاجِدَ اللّهِ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَأَقَامَ الصَّلاَةَ وَآتَى الزَّكَاةَ وَلَمْ يَخْشَ إِلاَّ اللّهَ فَعَسَى أُوْلَـئِكَ أَن يَكُونُواْ مِنَ الْمُهْتَدِينَ

The mosques of Allah shall be visited and maintained by such as believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish regular prayers, and practise regular charity, and fear none (at all) except Allah. It is they who are expected to be on true guidance. Qur'an 9:18
