Hi Sarwar,

Would be great to see other Python apps that you have worked on in the past. It seems you have worked with the translation APIs earlier. We would also like to integrate other providers like Bing, Microsoft, others if any and provide options to the user to use the source.

Also note,
1) The translation tool is supposed to have a Basic interface which provides selection of source and destination languages; and translation source (API). I wonder if you have worked with Python GUI apps in the past? If not I would suggest you do some research on it before you write up your proposal.
2) The translation tool is expected to work on Windows and Linux platforms. Have you worked with cross platform Python apps in the past?

Asses the project and the challenges, if you feel you're up for it do submit a proposal :-)

Regards,
Pankaj.

Hi Sarwar,
Your script is not working. One change that I did is changing simplejson to json . simplejson is no longer supported in python 2.7 (atleast) as I've python 2.7 installed and it didn't work for me. Even after changing it to json ,the script didn't work. I think it is because google has converted its free translation api to paid one.

Thanks.

Python and Qt frameworks are different (unless you use PySide). We plan to use Python for this tools not Qt.

:( It stopped working for me also. Guess we hav to go with Bing Apis then. Also one doubt, can we start working on app before Gsoc starts?

No, you can't. You can only start working on project ideas once you are selected in our organization as per GSoC timelines. Until then you can research and get to know the project better to write a strong proposal for your project.

For us, we would be largely relying on the proposal you submit and your discussions in this group.

Try to write your proposal clearly mentioning your approach towards developing the project idea. Also mention your past work, links and why you are the right person for this project. Some guidelines here: https://github.com/BuildmLearn/BuildmLearn-Toolkit/wiki/Guidance-for-Students#wiki-project-proposal

We don't have any IRC channel, our group is pretty active here :)

I have already replied to your questions. Let me know if you have other questions about the project ideas.

Regards,
Pankaj.
