Hello,
I am a B.TECH student from Dhirubhai Amabani Institute of Information and Communication Technology(DA-IICT), Gandhinagar. I am pursuing IT field and currently developing android apps.
I went through all the ideas in the idea page, and I am very much interested in developing for the Learn From Map idea. It is a great idea to make students learn geography easily using smartphones. I have developed a Chat based application called Areysun for a startup company.
This is the link . The app is currently under development phase. Also I am developing apps based on Google Maps Api, Wi-fi based server-socket communication and file transfer and live media streaming, android graphics canvas, and paint objects. Also I have developed windows store app in a team of 4, for a competition, so have got an experience in c# and .net.
I have got some ideas for the project.
- The app will open up displaying the main menu which would consist of options like start quiz, select levels, app settings, etc.
- Upon selecting the quiz option, it would land us to the page containing the map displayed to a default location and with a question poping up on the top.
- When the user moves the map to a location or drops a pin matching the co-ordinates corresponding to the answer, the question will be displayed as answered correctly in a manner attractive to children and the next question pops up. Now one one thing we can do over here is that the next question would be a nearby place or a place related to the one in the previous question, hence increasing the level. Or, we can have an option of restricting the question from the country or place of ones origin or interest just for the sake initial stages. Also to make it interesting for children, we can show the boundaries of the places like countries and cities known to them, as a part of our quiz questions.
- We can also have a feature of providing hints to the questions and also have an restriction on the number of hints so that children won't get habituated to that. The hints we can provide could be of types famous places nearby, or like displaying the answers with dashes, or giving the first and last letters. For e.g., if the answer to the question was Assam, we can give a hint like it is one of the "Seven sister states", this would also improve their I.Q. as they will try to search for the answer on their own.
- The use of artificial intelligence as in here could be like, if a certain type of question was answered incorrectly, then on the basis of that question some more questions could be asked to get children acquainted with what they don't know about.
- Also there could be marking or grading system for the children so when they are taught by a teacher in a group, there is hint of competition among them. And instead of the conventional grades we could display various cartoon characters, as for example displaying a better character for a better grade. Or we could give them stars, making it look interesting to children. They will learn through this game even without being aware that it was a part of their learning.
- And last but not the least, we could provide a tutorial within the app, so that they can learn on their own.
Thank You.
