Hi, I am Prasang, sophomore at VIT University, India. I want to contribute to mConference Framework (https://goo.gl/lzV4CI) as a part of GSoC'16.

I am having sufficient experience on Android App Development, along with the experience of an intern as an android app developer in a startup. I've also completed android app development certificate course from NIIT India.

My previous projects which I've uploaded on Play Store include:
Cambuzz(https://goo.gl/Mek48c): Official app for my University.
MotorBabu(https://goo.gl/ak1qBW): Developed during my internship period.
Drink/Drive(https://goo.gl/smPehJ): Personal project.
You can check my other apps on Play Store: https://goo.gl/r6kzJC (Play Store Account)

I am having some ideas, that could act as an extension to mConference Framework. But right now, I would straightaway like to start building wireframes for mConference Framework. What further steps would you recommend at this point?

Regards,
Prasang.

Thanks for your introduction Prasang.

We do recommend having a clear plan of action and wireframes in your project proposal. You are free to include your own ideas to enhance the project or add more features, in your proposal.

Of course, if you have questions or clarifications about the project... you may ask here.

Doubt regarding project: Although I am clear with the project and its features, I was having a substantial queries, more of a confirmation.
  • I want to confirm that, is this app similar to buildmlearn android toolkit, where one application can produce new projects and .apk files from given templates?

 Hi Prasang

No, mConference application is not similar to BuildmLearn Toolkit. mConference application is an Android application which reads data from an XML file in it's assests folder. The event organizers can change the data in the XML file and recompile this application to create app for their conference or event. This app will then be circulated among the event participants.

The next step of course would be to create a tool -> where the event organizers can easily fill data (instead of directly editing the XML) and generate the XML file. This can be as simple as a Python script, excel macro or a local webpage that generates an XML.

Both the above things together is the project idea. Hope that clarifies your doubt now.

Hi Rahul,

Thank you for replying. Yes, that clarifies my doubts.

Let me reframe it:
  1. An android app (tool), that helps event organizers to easily fill data regarding conference (instead of directly editing in the XML) and then generate an XML file.
  2. Then, this same app can be used to read this data from XML file and then recompile it to make a new android app (.apk file) for their conference.
  3. This app would then be circulated among the event participants.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Regards,
Prasang Sharma.

No. The  XML generated would be put in the assets folder of the Android source code and compiled to create an application (APK) for the conference.

Yes. I hope that clarifies it.

Hi Rahul,

I'm clear with the project idea now. I had another query.

Apart from making wireframes, I am also working on solving bugs and issues of current projects to improve my chances in GSoC'16. I've already given 2 PRs and few more which I'll submit soon. I came up with some bugs/issues in projects Mobile-Applications repo. I've forked and then cloned the code in my system to fix the issues. Unfortunately I'm unable to open the projects in my android studio. I've searched a on stackoverflow and other portals. Can't find a solution. I've listed this issue on issue list as well: https://github.com/BuildmLearn/Mobile-applications/issues/10 . Still I didn't get any solution to that. Any help or hint would mean a lot.

Regards,
Prasang
