Hi all,

How it will be to develop a new application which is based on maths. Because maths is needed in day to day life. Start from addition, subtraction to solving complex problems.

We can design a game where the children can learn to name the number, the tell the number for names, then basic operation like addition, subtraction, and then solve for value of 'X".  Basic aptitude skills.

General - below 12 age till college students
  • Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Divison
  • Solve of X
  • Numbers to words
  • Words to numbers
  • Fractions
  • Counting
  • and more..

Aptitude - above 12 age till college students
  • Area and perimeter
  • Simple and Compound Interest
  • Clock and Calender
  • Divisibility tests
  • HCF and LCM
  • Odd series
  • Profit and Loss
  • Square and Cube roots
  • Time and Distance

Benefits
  1. For children this game will help to enrich their mathematical skills.
  2. If the aptitude part is added chances are there it will help students who are preparing for Interviews.
Expecting your views on this apps.

Thank you

Hi Vishwaprasath

Your concept is good but would you be able to execute all what you proposed?
It would be great if you could also let us know how you plan to implement the above features.. may be provide some UI mockups, etc.

HI Rahul,

Sorry for sending it again. Missed to reply in Forum.

General - below 12 age
I have attached 4 images. In that Additions is for general operations(like subtraction, division, multiplication).  The fractions can also be included in this part itself. We can add some two levels atleast, where we can have some 3 or 4 number additions. subtraction and big number(2 digits for kids) number division.

Then regarding SloveforX we can make the basic operations to include in it. Then we can also give two variables unknowns, so it will be standard application for grade 6 students also.

Will bring more ideas for students till grade 8 after referring in two days.

If it is desktop game it will be great to look. because we will have big screen. It will look pretty.
if mobile platform also it will be cool. I would prefer to develop in Android(moderate developer), Firefox OS(my FAV) and Ubuntu touch(like to learn).

Aptitude- above 12 age till college students
For this previously developed a mobile application for BB10 during my internship. It is purely quiz app only. Not able to bring innovation and more gamification on that. Will let you know if any new ideas came on it.

I saw Quiz template made by BuildmLearn organisation in github. Can I use that for development.

Expecting your suggestion to improve the idea.

Thank you.

Any thoughts on the Mock UI.. Will be happy to redesign the concept if needed.

Expecting your guidance.

Thank you.

Hi Viswaprasath,

Rahul is busy today, so I thought I'll try to reply.

My take on the mockups you provided is that you can do a lot better. The colors used hurt my eyes. Also it doesn't seem like a mobile application. I would suggest you to have a look at UI guidelines for Android / Windows Phone / iPhone platforms whichever you are targeting.

The concept is good though, you need to lot of work on formulating the plan of action for your implementation and the UI mockups.

Hi Pankaj ,

Sorry I thought if the apps for desktop it will be great. Will change the color as you said.
And will bring the UI for Phone.

Whether is it possible to re-use the Quiz application model developed by your team for the section
Aptitude- above 12 age till college students. Because most of the thing which I have prepared is as Quiz question and answer only. For this section.

Thank you.

We are only accepting mobile applications, so mockups for desktops :)

Yes, you may re-use it.. since it's open source.

Hi mentors,
I have slightly changed the proposal idea after seeing the syllabus from TN state government and little bit CBSE. I have given below the things which each age student should cover. It will be really a great application for them to learn maths.

Class 1,2
Number 1 to 100
  • addition, subtraction
  • spell the number,
  • find the number
  • counting
Most of the boards for the students in Class 1 and 2 teach the number from 1 to 100. It will very essential and it is very basic in nature. Similarly the class 3,4,5 also learn basics which will be as in Class 1 and 2. But additionally they learn multiplication, division and fraction.

Class 3,4,5
Number Upto 1000
  • addition and subtraction (3 digits)
  • division and multiplication
  • money (convert rupee to paise, or we can say dollar value and convert(it uses multiplication operation) )
  • Fraction
  • NUMBERS AND OPERATIONS(place value)
Inline image 1
Here is the basic model of the mobile maths application which will be used for class 1,2,3,4,5. It will be used for modules like Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division of Integers, Fractions and Decimal number.

Inline image 2

This UI can be used for finding the number from the given word. Here we have given as Twenty six. For this first the Child has to click 2 and then has to click on 6.

Inline image 3
This UI we can use for converting the number into words. Here the child has to make two clicks. First he need to click on Sixty and then on Nine.

We are asking for two Clicks because in long run the Kid can learn both the unit's place name and ten's place name. Quickly he can do.

Beyond the Class 5 all are general topics which need to be framed properly. Most of the topics are asked in first round(Aptitude round) of IT companies.

Class 6,7,8
  • Shapes vol,surface, area
  • Decimal Number
  • divisibility test ( can learn rules for multiplication)
  • SI and CI
  • Solve for X
Inline image 4
This is the basic Solve for X. Here we have given only one unknown variable. But usually we can give upto 3 for this age group.
Class 9,10
    • HCF and LCM
    • Odd series
    • Square and Cube roots
    Inline image 5

This is the famous ODD one out question. The user needs to find which among the following is odd number in that series. In the above diagram 6 is ODD(because it is composite number).

Most of the UI are designed in such a way they can be modified slightly and reused for another modules. I feel it is very easy to finish the stated modules. Because already I have worked on Aptitude test application. And framing  the question is not a big task for me. I can get from our placement and training department for modules like Odd series, Square and Cube roots and so on.

I have just made the UI in the Photoshop. By this week end I can make and show it from the android phone.

I feel if you choose which color is better then I can use the same color for all the modules, so it will look uniform manner.

    Expecting your suggestion.

    Thank you.

Much better colors and mockups. I wonder if you have any past experience in developing mobile games? I ask since you didn't mention in your introduction

I have just made the UI in the Photoshop. By this week end I can make and show it from the android phone.

Please do not start coding / working on the project until you are selected for the project as per GSoC timelines. You may start working on a proposal which you may then submit to Google. Some guidelines for what to include in the proposal here: https://github.com/BuildmLearn/BuildmLearn-Toolkit/wiki/Guidance-for-Students

Also, since you are submitting a new idea, you should know that we will only consider new ideas if we do not get good enough proposals for the ideas on our page.

    Regards,
    Pankaj.
