Hey,

I am Furquan Ahmed, Pursuing BE (Computer Science) in my Third year. After going through all you project ideas i liked the Learn from map the best, and want to work on that as a part of GSoC. Here are some of the ideas that i think might fit for the above. Some of these ideas are also inspired from ideas of other students as well.

As far as i understand this will be a quiz game app that will help the children learn geography, so i think to make it as more like a game as it could be.

1. As with many games i have seen there are various modes of gameplay and so i think we could include these practice with this too. Like we could have a conquer the world campaign which will start the game with the users country and as he advances will open new countries. This approach always lures the player to play more and will eventually make him/her learn more.

2.  We could fire questions buy labeling a city / country by a question mark and the player then would have to guess the name of the city/country. we could provide hints here like this city is close to that river or its the nearest city from some city like that. This will make him learn more at time. (May require map tiles without labels)

3. I have seen this in many post and think of it as a good idea, we will keep a database of the countries and cities all around the world and when user will select one we could frame question using live news about that place and as the user to point the location on the map.

4. Also, i have from all the post i have gone through, i found that you are interested in AI element of this game, well that could be achieve yet buy keeping a list of adjectives like nearest, farthest , smallest , largest and combining it with cities or rivers or some other land marks for some user chosen country, which will be stored in database and when a country is selected it will combine these two like largest city in Italy and the player will point the answer on the map.

Give your thoughts.

Yes, this is a good idea.. infact it's suggested by many students.

Yes. You can have advanced questions to mark the highest mountain peak, capital of China, etc.

This has been discussed in some previous threads, can you check for more info there: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/buildmlearn/news/buildmlearn/U-Q-tk6bYXE/oDU-yi882FgJ

Yes, we are interested in AI i.e. essentially forming questions based on  some available data for a geographical region.

Heyy,
I am very much interested in working on "learn from map" application. I was thinking for the app why are we restricting ourselves to geography,we could as well provide a server support and broaden the learning domain and make the app a powerful and interactive tool for informal learning. We could have a database support to app that gets updated and new knowledge base is added, For eg. if user picks India as his country of choice, so the app could formulate questions using AI like Who is president, crossword on rivers , Nobel winners etc.

Yes, that's the plan. If you are interested in working on it, why not write a proposal for it?
