hello sir,
I am third year student from PICT pune, i am interested in doing this app because this app can be very much helpful for various purpose for ex-If our application is not responding well which uses some kind of sensors,we can check the various sensors and disable feature that rely on sensor which does not present....I know java very well(basic+advanced).I came to know about this event few days ago...from  that day i started googling about this project and i got certain ideas  about which classes and interface will be useful for this app.
I also have one idea so that along with this app, i can also include support for metal detector if device contains magnetic sensor...I have not created any app yet,but planning to create one about some carrier guidance for student. I am keen interested in contributing to open source community so if get an opportunity i will do my best...
I have also downloaded Buildmlearn software and i found it very interesting ,i am also interested in translating it for linux..
so please suggest something so that i can walk in right way.

Great! You can start understanding the code base and ask questions if you have any. It's time you start drafting a proposal if you want to contribute as a GSoC student.

thank you for reply,
i am trying my best to understand code base. I will make my proposal ready soon and will post for review.

I google a lot and i found that major cell phone contains only 3 types of sensors-1.proximity sensor 2.accelaration sensor 3.compass sensor and additionally gyroscope
so my question is whether we have to develope app for only these sensors or anythink additional we need to include....!!!!

Yes, it makes sense to start with the most common sensors. Once the implementation for these are complete - you should try to include others.

thank you for reply.....
another fact i need to know is for visualization purpose what kind of graph is expected....i mean suppose consider accelerometer it returns the values in 3 dimension x,y and z so to represent these values using 2d graph we can use bar chart or circle divided into 3 parts for x,y and z....
is this what you expected or something else....if latter than please give example if possible........
i have loaded one image of such visualization.....in this image the vertical bar will very according to changes in the sensor values....am i considering right or we need more.......

Have you done some research in the group yourself? There are many discussion on the sensor application in this group, check out these discussions: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!tags/buildmlearn/MobileSensors
