Hello i have a few project ideas of my own for GSOC 2014 under BuildmLearn. I have not prepared full project proposals yet , but have some vague project ideas. If any of these ideas are acceptable then i will go ahead with preparing the whole project prpoposal

  1. 29 - Card Game - This is not actually a learning application , but a really popular card game played in India.
  2. Drawing Application - A virtual drawing sheet for kids where they will be able to create sketches, colors, follow dotted templates, etc etc. like a drawing book.
  3. Interactive programming language environment - Language environments and interactive tutorials for students in high school.
  4. Learn Graph & Algorithms  - An application for students to learn graph theory, starting from coordinate geometry till college level graph theory problems which may include chromatic polynomials, shortest route problems etc. for eg. A student makes a network, and solves it for maximum flow, and then the app solves it for him too. if he/she is correct then fine, else it shows each step on how it is solved. - Example - this is predetermined example, and i am thinking about any networks, shortest paths etc. This app in future can also include ways to determine Time complexities of algorithms.

These are the few ideas i have. Please give me some headers on which might be acceptable and which one should i proceed with.

Thanks

-Shaurya

Hi Shaurya,

It's important to mention two things when you submit proposal for educational apps / games. What is the age group you are targeting and what is the application teaching the user. You haven't mentioned these in your ideas.

Also note that we are keen only on mLearning applications, and specifically applications that teach some subjects like science, maths, geography, history, grammar, etc.

Regards,
Pankaj.

Thank you for replying Pankaj. Like i said these ideas were some ideas i had. The last idea i talked about is the one i am actuially interested in making. It would be an application for students to learn a part of Mathematics  - coordinate geometry, graph theory and related algorithms. This app would focus mainly on students from high school to graduate students learning advanced topics. The app will have a graph paper like canvas where more operations would be performed. there will be more features as the development progresses I have a good knowledge in these topics and i am a good programmer as well.
But if a proposal of this kind of mLearning app is going to be declined outright then i would be looking to make some other application.
Thank You
Shaurya

Hi Shaurya,

You didn't still answer the age-group question. Your ideas are good (specially #3 and #4), just that it's likely we are going to select proposals for ideas we have already put on the ideas page first. If we do not get good proposals for the ideas there, we go for new ideas.. Of course, we can make exceptions if the new idea is wow!

Regards,
Pankaj

Seems fair. I had another question in Mind though, that would I be able to submit more than one proposl, I realy like this idea but would also like to have a better chance in getting accepted. So if i would be able to submit a proposal for your idea as well as mine, it wouuld be great, but am I allowed to do that?

Yes, you can do that. However, one idea per proposal.
