Hi,

I am Vishakha Gupta,a  3rd year student pursuing Integrated Post Graduation(B.Tech+M.Tech) in Information Technology at ABV-IIITM,Gwalior(M.P).
I have been developing Android apps since an year.I have also developed hybrid apps ,using HTML5 for the front end and integrating it with some features of Android.
Also, I have developed a Physics Interactive Tutorial using the framework provided by IIT Bombay.

I am very much interested to develop the following Android applications  :
1.Label the Diagram:I think a lot more can be done in this project.
a.Initially ask the user about the level .Then allow the user to choose the subject and provide the diagrams according to the subject.
b.This app can be extended to label the maps. Also, various categories can be made for maps also ,like map for national movements, international                                                      airports, etc.
For kids,it can be just like match the columns, picking up a cities for the monuments in that cities.
                                  c. A hint button to help the user while labeling the diagram can be added.
d.If a user picks up the correct choice, we can provide some useful information.
                                  e. This app can also be extended for college students.

2.Tell the Time: It looks that  this app is useful only for kids, but it can be a lot more than that.
a.For the calendar functionality, interesting facts can be provided for a specific date making the dates easier to learn for the user.
b.Depending on the level of user, two types of quizzes for calendar can be there:
i.For kids, name of some festivals or important dates will  be given and they will be asked to provide the dates. Also ,some word problems to add and subtract                                        dates can be provided.
ii.For users belonging to fourth standard or above,it is very difficult for them to remember the dates of important historic events. So,for them ,some questions                                   based on the historic events would be asked and some hints can be given to them if they require.
c.Fpr the time functionality exercises for kids can be there. In this, the user would be given some fill up the blanks like:

I wake up at _______ in the  morning.
The blank space will actually contain the clock and the user has to move the arms of the clock to fill the time. Also restrictions can be put on the degree of movement                          of the arms of the clock. For example, for the above case ,the user can fill the time from 5 am to 9 am.If a user tries to drag the arms out of the restricted timings,a                                voice message will describe the error.

I would like to discuss these ideas in detail. Please let me know how should I proceed further.

Thank You
Vishakha Gupta

Hi Vishakha

Thanks for introducing yourself in the group, it would be great to see links of apps you have already published.

As for label the diagram we are looking at labeling science diagrams with a few built in. Instead of selecting the subject may be the user could select a scientific topic. Also, labeling the map would be ruled out since we want to just focus on science diagrams. Can you elaborate on how you will provide hints?

For tell the time, the main part is going to be the interactive click. As for your idea on adding historic dates... you could do this, but then kids who are still learning how to see the time may not be interested in historic dates. The main objective of this application is to teach the concept of time and calendar to students.

As next steps, I think you need to do a little more research on the project idea - make sure you understand it and have a plan of action for implementing it. Starting 10th March you can submit proposals to Google for your project ideas. I would also suggest you to read other related discussions in the group, there have been many and some students have presented mockups, etc. as well.

Regards,
Pankaj

Hi Avnee

I apologize for taking so long to reply.Actually I was busy writing the proposal for Tell the Time application. Here is the link of the proposal:

Please give your feedback on the proposal.

it would be great to see links of apps you have already published.
I have not published any apps.Till now , I kept the developed apps on my desktop. But now I have shared them. The details are:

World of Alphabets is an android app which teaches English Alphabets. It uses text to speech feature of android framework. The .apk file for the app can be downloaded                from: https://github.com/beginnee/APK_of_WorldofAlphabets

  •                       Physics Interactive Tutorials- I have developed some interactive tutorials using the framework provided by IIT Bombay. These tutorials basically teach the concept of          friction. They are listed as follows:

a)    Good and Bad Friction: https://github.com/beginnee/Good-and-bad-friction

This  tutorial allows user to distinguish between good friction and bad friction. Good friction is the friction which has some usefulness and bad friction is the one that just increases the costs.

b)    Types of Friction: https://github.com/beginnee/Types_of_friction

This is an interactive tutorial showing the two types of friction, sliding friction and rolling friction. It shows how the frictional force vary with the angle of inclination and the amount of surface area in contact.

c)    Frictional force and area: https://github.com/beginnee/Frictionalforce_and_area

This tutorial depicts the relationship of frictional force offered by a surface to the area of the object that is in contact with the surface.

d)    Multiple forces and direction of frictional force:  https://github.com/beginnee/Multiple_forces-direction_and_result

This tutorial depicts the relationship of frictional force offered by a surface with multiple forces. It shows how the direction of frictional force change with the change in the direction of the applied forces.

Thanks
