Hello,
I Vivek Maskara am a 2nd year undergraduate student of Delhi Technological University pursuing my BTech in Software Engineering. I am interested in the Learn from map mobile application project.
I am proficient in Java, C#, C, C++, PHP and have a good experience in HTML, CSS, MYSQL and other web development languages. I have worked in databases, windows phone and desktop apps, Java applications and website development.
I have developed quite a few apps for windows phone and desktop and am active member of DVLUP ranked among the top 20 in India. You can have a look at my various apps here:

Some of my recent apps are
· Money Tracker, a personal finance app
· HTML Pro, which lets the user test his HTML code on his phone. Here is the link.
I did a 3 month intern at MapleGraph Solutions Private Limited and worked on their website www.tokkri.com which is a personal guide for retail outlets in India. It taught me to manage huge amounts of data and server side scripting languages.
I am currently developing a windows phone and desktop app for Tokkri, for submission at Windows Phone and Windows 8 challenge of Imagine Cup 2014. It helps the user search nearby stores, products and best offers available in them.
· The app takes your locations and lists stores nearest to you.
· It lets you find the route to a particular store along with voice commands.
I am interested in developing the Learn from Map app for Windows phone. I have thought of a few things which can help in making the app interactive, uncluttered and useful as a learning tool.
· Beginner, intermediate and expert level for different age groups. We could also have tutorials which tells the user about any location.
o Award badges for various achievements.
o Points can be awarded based on the time the user took to solve the question.
· The game mode may include different types of exercises that focus on map skills (both political and physical), MCQs and clue based questions along with other categories which make them learn about fundamentals of geography in a playful manner.
o While the beginner levels may revolve around basic physical geography, asking questions related to capitals, oceans, climate and vegetation etc. and helping develop an understanding of directions that makes the user fluent with navigation skills.
o The intermediate level may include questions relating to climatic zones, soil profiles, ecosystems, latitudes and longitudes among other things.
o Advanced level may include questions relating to mineral distribution and industries, crop patterns and wildlife.
· The app can provide detailed reports about the progress made by the user in various regions, highlighting the extent of exploration.
· Framing of questions could be done with the help of location based meta data in a XML file
o Lots of questions like nearest, tallest, well known for, deepest, arrange in order etc. can be generated based on the location.
o GeoCoordinate Watcher along with reverse Geo Coding API can give various details about a particular location. It can be used to generate questions and also for checking the user’s response.
o AI can help in giving interesting clues to the user.
o Text to speech feature can make the app more interactive making it accessible to a broad range of users.
· Along with the answers we can display detailed information using MediaWiki APIs.
· The app can be localized in different languages using Multilingual App toolkit for Windows Phone making it available to a diversified user base.
I believe I am a suitable candidate for this project and my experience from previous projects would help me. I am currently working on Tokkri app which would be over by March end will be able to devote full time to Learn from Map project as summer break will start in our college. I have been developing apps for windows phone for the past 2 years and am quite familiar with their UI guidelines and its development environment.
I would like to discuss these ideas in detail. Please let me know how should I proceed further.
