Dear Friend,
1937 was on hell of a year in Kansas City and beyond and we at KKFI will be celebrating all week. Bill Clause, author of the play, 1937: One Hell of a Year!, will be Tom Klammer's guest on Tell Somebody tonight at 6pm. The play opens this Friday at 8pm and it features several KKFI folks. Eco-Radio KC host Richard Mabion plays Pullman Porter organizer A Phillip Randolph, a giant of a man in the history of African American advancement, whose shoulders later acitvists, such as Martin Luther King, Jr., stood on. The Heartland Labor Forum's Judy Ancel, Eclectics' Rebecca Roche and yours truly are also featured. Saturday, November 14th's performance is a benefit for KKFI. ( http://www.kkfi.org/event.php?id=768) Tom will also re-air a portion of his interview with the author of a book on A. Phillip Randolph and the Pullman Porters. Also expect to hear some excerpts from last week's PIEA hearing regarding the Kansas City Plant.
Bill will join me tomorrow on the Morning Buzz at 7am, and we'll feature some music from 1937. Before that, I'll be playing music in honor of Veterans' Day. And be listeninf for some sick music in response to Jim Hightower. Food activist, Michael Pollan will speak in Defense of Food on Alternative Radio at 9am. At 12:30, get ready for part 2 of From Ark to Microchip's Darwin, the Musical.
If you're suffering from the ill effects of the ecoomy, you may want to check out the Heartland Labor Forum, this Thursday at 6pm, or the next morning at 5am, as they interview two authors of books on being broke: Michael Allen, author of Survivor's Guide to Debt, and Jon Jeter, author of Flat Broke in the Free Market. And 1937 resurfaces on the Thursday Night Special at 7pm, as the Actionspeaks series presents 1937: The Flint, Michigan United Auto Workers's Strike, a panel discussion featuring an economics professor, a Young Republican, and the Rhode Island Director of Jobs With Justice.
I hope I'll be a part of your day tomorrow morning, and I hope to see you at the play this weekend.
Stay Tuned,
Mike Murphy
