We welcome suggestions for the lists of professional service providers
which we maintain on a global and regional basis at
http://www.gdi-solutions.com/contacts.htm

We also welcome participation by such professionals in this Group to
assist the corporate executives and advisors who can benefit from their
knowledge when planning major direct investment projects such as new,
expanded, or renovated industrial and office buildings and warehouses.

The idea behind this Group is to openly share knowledge about the
architectural design, engineering, construction and project management
process for industrial and office building projects, as well as
insights about working with property developers, project finance
specialists, REIT's and other services.

Examples of potential topics in the Building Projects Group include:

Special project management considerations in (country, state, etc.)
Design and construction experience in the (industry)
Design and construction for (type of project - distribution centers,
R&D, etc.)
Trends in workplace design, and regional variances
The impact of facility design on corporate performance
Cost control in design and construction projects
Competitive bid versus negotiated contracts
Project finance alternatives for industrial and office buildings

The focus is to share knowledge and ideas about capabilities, project
planning and management, and what differentiates the service providers
from the buyer's perspective so that executives can reach
better-informed decisions about development of their project plans.

These groups are not intended to promote or criticize any specific area
or service.

Google policy imposes constraints on the marketing use of Groups.
These Groups are to share useful resources, "lessons learned",
practical experience, and ideas in this niche.

Postings are openly available and indexed by Google for search
purposes. New postings are typically distributed by e-mail to all
Group members, but each member can control this.

Although it would generally be our preference to have completely open
Groups, we feel that there is a need to moderate who is a member of the
group, and then members can guide the appropriate use of postings for
open knowledge-sharing among members of the Group. This should help to
assure the professional quality and relevance of the postings by
members.

It is not intended to promote specific development projects or service
providers, but examples from past or current projects can highlight
important planning considerations of common interest to potential
investors and their advisors, or share knowledge of innovative
practices.

In other words, shared knowledge about the process and specific project
examples can highlight the capabilities and specialization of the Group
member, but should not simply function like an advertorial for the
service provider.

In particular, we welcome updates to the selective directory of Project
Management firms, Architects, Engineers, and Construction firms,
including industrial and office design-build firms for commercial and
industrial real estate such as factories, warehouses, and all types of
office space. It can otherwise be difficult for executives and their
advisors to identify and qualify relevant specialists when they are
needed for a project.

When capabilities are more regional or local in nature, rather than
national (US) or global, we generally list the firms in the relevant
regional directories of contacts so that executives with project
interests in those areas will be able to learn of their services.

We can also publish our GUIDE Survey or Service Profiles about the
capabilities of a company on request. Contact us for details about
this. These function as an executive summary of capabilities within a
globally consistent framework for the convenient reference of users.
For example, refer to various Service Profiles summarized and linked at

http://www.gdi-solutions.com/guide/profsvcs.htm

A recent example of this would be H+M Construction, with a Survey and
Service Profile found respectively at
http://www.gdi-solutions.com/profsvcs/surveys/construction_hm_company.htm
http://www.gdi-solutions.com/profsvcs/profiles/design_build_usa_hm_company.htm

Note that our directories of projects by region and industry can link
to such Service Profiles, making it easier to recognize at a glance
similar projects which have been performed by specific service
providers when such information is publicly available. This can assist
executives and advisors with qualification choices as one indicator of
relevant experience or specialization.
