Discussion on teleports-subproject

I have been thining of this for some time now ... it would be nice to
have instead of doors as TP points a Tree with fruit or some very nice
ornimetal object that would stand out like a statue that would
represent the floor you was TPing to. Any other ideas???

How about a model of Valimar (smaller and more refined eventually) to be used as a directory and teleporter system. :~)

Arianwen, I understand you are suggesting will mean the removal of
the doors I created. I initially know they were meant for temporary
use until we made better ones. But to my surprised they have lasted
longer than i thought and so far they have been very useful, coming in
handy. It's important that the teleporters look like an entry into a
new realm and not be symbolic imagery. We want it to be in theme, user
friendly as possible and not too technical or difficult to determine
what it is(Like some of the rocks around with floating text).. A tree
is visually appealing but for new visitors of the land, it would make
it difficult for them to venture unless someone was leading them by
the hand. I initially thought of a huge wall that had an image of the
land being entered. clicking teleport on the wall would take you to
that location. Another idea is to have a swan boat connected to a
stream on the wall/sim border. Teleporting would take you to the next
stream on the above level shore still sitting inside the swan boat,
thats another wild idea i had. the teleporters can of course be
redone. It just a matter of what is best for our theme, eye appeal,
members, and visitors for ease of user interface.

I can never quite tell where it is best to make a comment, but have
been asked to contribute to issues where lag may me affected (since I
have spent most of my SL life in Avilion where lag is THE issue
everyday; and minimising it a constant creative battle). So in the
case of teleports, we know....the fewer teleport entry points the less
lag. We let people walk and SEE the land rather than just fly over
it. In Avilion, only the Fae, Dragons and Ancients are "authorised"
to fly and most still walk and save flying for "emergencies". This is
just a thought, I know Avilion is not a perfect land, but I come with
great experience about minimising lag. Sheri

Very understandable Khy and I agree that is should be simple to use
and will fined some ideas that we can all agree apon and make sure to
talk to you to get some of your ideas as well. I didnt know you had
made the door and I mean no offence to the doors at all. they are well
done and have been very useful. smiles
