After you establish the criteria, I am still available to lead a road
trip to some sites in SL that may inspire the team that is charged
with terraforming. It may be an extraneous step, but sometimes seeing
is almost believing....I for one cannot wait to see the land rise up
off the barren plain. /me smiles, Sheri

This is great! I look forward to seeing the land develop; would love
to see some hillsides, perhaps an inlet or some use of 'sea' water. I
would encourage you to take Sheri's road trip offer up for
inspiration. There are some amazing worlds created out there that
would really be worth taking ideas from. It's my understanding that
although Valimar is on a plain, it is surrounded by mountains!
Cheers, Rosie

Hi, all

Ted, can we, as a speedy "all-hands" type project, send photography
crews out to every well done SL Sim they've ever heard of for
Stylebook photos of landscapes, builds, and terraforming, especially
"plains"? Maybe the photographer posts the good shots to Flikr or
this group or any web page and link to our stylebook thread? If you
like this idea, annouce it Thursday. I've been wanting to announce
stylebook photo crews needed for weeks, and the time is definitely
right, if not overdue!

Rosie, Valimar itsef is on the plain. Mountains and the pass to the
sea are to the east, north-east and south-east, on the next sim. The
Ainur loved the sound of running water, so we are not on a dry, flat
plain. Rivulets, streams, washes and ponds with their accomanying
hills, slopes, and beds are definintely indicated. And, oh yes,
buildings.

We are will be adding a whole slew of JRRT quotes regarding the
description of Valimar to the Style book very soon.

Love, Arth.

Oh had some great ideas.

Well was thinking as I thought of land texturing that it would be good
to life all the lower land up a few meters... it will give the effect
of more grassier plan and will help when we do start to build hills
and ravens. At the entrance we can slop the land down to the water
giving it a good entrance effect. I will see what I can work up as far
as textures. I have some ideas I am playing with in my mind but am
unsure as to how they will work.

Let me know what you think,
Arian

I]n the plain in the full radiance of the Trees was a cluster of
dwellings built like a fair and smiling town, and that town was named
Valmar. No metal and no stone, nor any wood of mighty trees was spared
to their raising....Separate from these and bordering upon the open
vale was a great court, and this was Aulë's house, and it was filled
with magic webs woven of the light of Laurelin and the sheen of
Silpion and the glint of stars....
Ossë too had a great house, and dwelt therein whenso a conclave of the
Valar was held or did he grow weary of the noise of the waves upon his
seas. Ónen and the Oarni brought thousands of pearls for its building,
and its floors were of sea-water, and its tapestries like the glint of
the silver skins of fishes, and it was roofed with foam.

Lórien too dwelt far away, and his hall was great and dimly lit and
had wide gardens. The place of his dwelling he called Murmuran, which
Aulë made of mists gathered beyond Arvalin upon the Shadowy Seas.....
[Yavanna] had given Lórien great wealth of yewtrees and cedars, and of
pines that exuded drowsy odours in the dusk, and these hung over deep
pools. Glowworms crept about their borders and Varda had set stars
within their depths....

wow, so there was running water there? Really confusing. I thought it
was a city. Still cannot find any writing that says there's water in
Valimar...but there was a lot in Valinor.
