I've been thinking of adding glue ins to my repertoire and assembling some gear to practice. Any recommendations on manual hole blowers? I found a Hilti one for $80 and if I have to make the investment I suppose I will. Just seeing what the options are.
I went with the Red Head BP-10 Angus recommends- can't argue with that logic!! I found it for under $20 online at Grainger. Searching by model number gave me a good handful of options. Thanks for the recommendations, all!
I tried the $50 blow pump from Dewalt. Worked ok besides being huge and the tube was always in the way. It broke after about a hundred holes.I then used a $5 ball pump. That worked better and got more dust out of the hole and didnt get in the way as much. That broke after 25 holes. I now used caned air (dust off etc). Way better! Much more effective at getting dust out of the hole and you can use it one handed. One can cleans 20 to 30 1/2" holes.
The Hilti blow pump is a good bet. Single action pump but the pressure is solid and the plastic pipe rigid unlike other pumps where it is floppy - pain directing that into a hole!
Bit of smart rigging so it hangs nicely on a lanyard.

Disclaimer: my business.
The glue that I use is appropriate for wet locations, you can even use it under water, so the whole "no spit in the hole" doesnt matter at all. Does the Hilte RE500 not work in wet locations? I've always wondered why people were concerned about this. Just buy 3 feet of 3/8 tubing from home depot and put a string on it. Cost you like $2.
I have been looking at a CO2 pump for inflating bicycle tires or a drain gun with a modded nozzle. It seems to have the benefits of being compact and power, like the keyboard cleaner, but it reusable. Has anyone played around with this idea?
example
Hmm, seems like a good idea. I am sure it would be very effective. I expect the PSI would be higher than the keyboard cleaner. I guess the metrics that we should measure a good pump would be effectiveness (PSI?), ease of use, and cost per hole?
+1 on the silicone tube. It allows you to blow from the deepest part of the hole. Used a compressed air can before with a straw, but that didn't work as well. Just be aware you can get a face full of rock dust when you blow.
Never was a fan of the blow tube even in the hand drilling days. The Hilti bulb puffer is great for smaller holes, but for deeper (100mm) holes i love the Hilti pump. I also use it to pump my non self inflating pad when car camping.
I use a piece of flexible refrigerator supply line under extreme duress to frantically clear a hole while doing what could be described as "a yoga pose on potato chips" over the looming void, which venturing into, would probably necessitate a rather expedient, costly, and unwanted helicopter ride.
The best bolt hole I ever cleaned was with a hole brush and canned air. The worst bolt hole I ever cleaned was with a lie....
