Hi Skylar,

Are there plans to offer ways to interact with an account - for
example funding a loan from an external app after authenticating the
user?

This is probably far beyond the scope of this first version, but a way
to fund loans and/or add funds to a user's account from an external
app would really open some doors to cool external apps. You mentioned
something like this in the initial blog post (funding loans from your
iPhone), but I didn't see anything in the documentation. Possible or
no?

Thanks! I'm stoked for this!

There are plans for this. Allowing 3rd party applications to make
loans on behalf of a user (after the user approves the application),
is certainly something we want to do. I updated the roadmap to
reflect this:

http://developers.wiki.kiva.org/Roadmap

We'll update more details here as we work those out. It is possible
to make an iPhone application that lets users shop for new loans, but
it's true you can't help them through the checkout process. One
change we might make soon is the ability to deposit a set of loans
into a basket for user. Then, they would have to check out on their
own at kiva.org.

If you start an application on the current API, you'll be in a good
position to add "lending" capabilities when that's released.

Cheers,
skylar

skylar,

Thanks for the fast replies!

Do you have an estimated time frame for 1.1 and 2.0? (most of what I want to use is in 2.0)

The roadmap looks very promising though, and yes, please do add a gifting API, especially if there wont be a way to check out with the API :)

You guys are doing great work! Thanks so much

You'll see parts of 1.1 later this month. 2.0 is likely in the
summer... There will be some cool and very important additions in 2.0,
but the bulk of what you need to write an app is exposed as public
information.
