I can provide two observations immediately.
For item #3: I had this happen the first time I tried this example. I had
opened the spreadsheet and started working on the example before I realized
I need the F2:F3 cells arranged as indicated in the text. (The spreadsheet
- as you know - does not originally have the text filled in). So I exited
BugsXLA and then filled in the cells in the Excel spreadsheet with TRT and
*and then saved and closed Excel. Then I restarted Excel and BugsXLA Add-in
and the example worked without the error you are getting. Without doing
further investigation, I assumed that once the Add-in starts running, it
does recognize changes to the spreadsheet that was open when the Add-in
first started.
For the VPN question #5 (and perhaps the other questions concerning WinBUGS
errors): I have found that I cannot call WinBUGS from BugsXLA when working
on files that are NOT on my local hard disk. I have a simple home network.
When I try to work on spreadsheet files stored on a network drive, WinBugs
returns various errors - in particular I have received your #4 example
error. Try placing your Excel files on your local drive and using a local
folder for all your data files. As well, I only use WinBugs and Excel on my
local machine.
As well, I assume - if you are using WinBUGS on a 64-bit processor, that you
followed the instructions from the WinBUGS project site: " If installing on
a 64-bit machine, you should download a zipped version of the whole file
structure and unzip it into Program Files or wherever you want it. "
As to item #1 - I notice you say you are checking the WinBUGS .exe file. To
verify the successful install of the "immortal" key need to:
"Check the date of the file c:\Program Files\WinBUGS14\Bugs\Code\Keys.ocf
(or wherever you have installed WinBUGS 1.4). If it shows the current date
and time then the upgrade has been successfully installed."
Let the Group know how you are doing on this! I really think Phil's book is
great and I think it would be great to have this book plus a tutor taking me
through it! Your students will be fortunate indeed.
Regards,
George
