Thoughts on Bangladesh Independence Day

Independence Day is a time of reflection and solace, a day to remember the service and sacrifices for those who have supported and defended our freedom.

On behalf of Bangladesh Unity Federation of Los Angeles (BUFLA) I would like to show my respect, recognition, remembrance and salute to our National Father Bangobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, former Vice-President Syed Nazrul Islam, former Prime Minister Mr. Tajuddin Ahmed, Captain (Rtd) Mansur Ali, former Home Minister A H M Quamruzzaman, General MAG Osmani, the commander-in-chief of the liberation arm forces in 1971, former President Ziaur Rahman, the sector commander of the liberation arm forces in 1971, Seven Bir Shresto, all Sector Commanders and all of our freedom fighters – for the contributions and sacrifices they have made to allow us to live free and they gave their life to ensure the rest of us can enjoy freedom. Independence Day is more than a day of reflection and remembrance. It’s an opportunity to choose, reflect, and learn from the right lessons in history.

There are no more important words to say on Independence Day to our freedom fighters and national leaders especially those who have given their lives fighting for our freedom and defending our shores than a heartfelt “thank you.” To Freedom Fighters everywhere, you are our true heroes. You and your predecessors have made possible to celebrate the Victory Day on December 16th and Independence Day on March 26th. We will never forget your contributions, your services and extreme sacrifices to improve the life of the citizens of Bangladesh by providing a Red on the Green flag. I am pretty sure this nation will remain the land of the free so long as it is the home of brave heroes.

“We thank you - salute you and your families for your courage, your service and making the most extreme sacrifices possible, "One of the greatest gifts to you is a heartfelt thank you - it goes a long, long way."

Lastly we are continue praying to Allah (swt) for you and your family who already Shohid (Martyrs) at 1971 war or passed away after, May Allah reward you in highest place of Jannatul Ferdous, Ameen.

May God bless BUFLA, Long live Bangladesh and May God bless USA, the United States of America.
