Y'all are smart and busy, so I'll keep this brief (and maybe between us?). The really brief version: I'm looking for anyone, personally or through a company or contact, who can help close the gap for TEDxBuffalo 2012. With some part of $700, total.

I'm the organizer of TEDxBuffalo, a yearly speaking event that's coming up on Oct. 9. It's like a farm team for the TED Talks league, with the chance for TEDx speakers and performers to make it onto TED's video channel, nearly guaranteeing tens or hundreds of thousands of viewers from across the globe (see Simon Simonek's amazing talk from TEDxPugetSound). Last year's TEDxBuffalo event was an amazing event, and it produced talks I truly believe could work on TED.com.

TEDxBuffalo 2012 is limited, under license, to 100 hand-picked attendees (though we'll have a live stream). It is not an easy or typical sell to sponsors, and our staff is all unpaid volunteers. We've been lucky to get some very kind cash sponsors, funding of event particulars, and even free lunch. But to shoot our speakers the way they deserve to be captured is not cheap.

If you or someone you know, or a company you're affiliated with, can help with any part of $700, it would ensure the TEDxBuffalo team can focus on content from here on out. TED's license forbids crowdfunding projects (Kickstarter, Indiegogo); the minimum is $25.

I've learned a lot from this year's event, and I'm quite humbled in writing this. If you can help us, contact me off-list, and the TEDxBuffalo team will do our best to spread your name and put your kindness to work.

This above all the other events we've done in the tech community, can really help change people's perceptions outside of Buffalo and help set the stage for us. The event is in less than two weeks, so those who are interested in helping pitch in to support this event should email Kevin quick and then ship off a quick paypal payment.

I set up ke...@tedxbuffalo.com as a PayPal account for receiving only. TEDxBuffalo is not a non-profit organization (most businesses could write it off as "marketing expense"), but our money is held by B-Team Buffalo, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit that gives me stern looks if I try to make last-minute Oriental Trading Co. orders.
