Hey Folks,
Local Founder Kate Huber put together a slack for the Buffalo Startup Community as a whole (not just devs, but also angels, mentors, expats, etc):  See below & click here: http://bit.ly/bflostartupslack

Hi folks,

I’m Kate Huber, co-founder and COO of CloudInsyte. I’m new to the Buffalo area, having spent the last 8 years in NYC, and every day I’m reminded how great of a decision it was to move my life and business here. I think the Buffalo community overall is uniquely special and the startup community within it is proving to be a vibrant crowd of brilliant and supportive peers.

I set up this Slack workspace for the Buffalo Startup Community to come together and have an online forum to connect and engage outside of the regular meet ups like BOCC (Buffalo Open Coffee Club, held every Tue 7:30-9am at Rowhouse Bakery on Delaware). I hope you find it useful! I’ve set it up to be as open as the community currently is, so please use this link to sign up and join the conversations, and feel free to pass it along to anyone else you think should join: http://bit.ly/bflostartupslack

If you’ve got questions about Slack or this initiative, feel free to reach out to me at ka...@cloudinsyte.com.

Since we’re new to the Buffalo startup community, I’ll also share a little about CloudInsyte. My co-founder, Josh Ferry, and I started CloudInsyte after living on both sides of the tech and security vendor world and deciding we could make the process of vendor selection a lot less painful for everyone involved. Josh and I actually met when he was working for a global data center and cloud provider my healthcare SaaS company was a customer of and realized we worked well together and had a passion for solving problems (and a general affinity for making money and having fun too, of course).

The easiest way to describe what CloudInsyte is/does would be that we are a Smart Vendor Marketplace, matching companies with the right tech and/or security vendors for their projects (think: eHarmony for vendors + their customers).

Josh is from Buffalo originally, so even before we moved HQ from NYC to BUF, we called our team the InsyteMafia because “Mafia means family” in our house and anyone who works with us becomes family. Obviously, InsyteMafia comes from the Bills Mafia, so it was only a matter of time until we and CloudInsyte called Buffalo home.

Looking forward to connecting with you soon!

Cheers,

Kate

Startupbuffalo.slack.com and buffalostartups.slack.com also exist. How might we converge and bolster activity?

Jon,
Thanks for the input.  I'd never heard about of been invited to those teams.  What are their primary modes of outreach?

I'd say that overlap and complexity are ok when we're talking about an ecosystem.  We're going to see overlapping events and ideas frequently in the future.

I'm just glad that we're developing a bias for action.  Often, inaction is worse than the wrong action.

People are welcome to join whatever teams that they want and eventually consolidation will happen as the market decides where the best value is found.

Those groups have gone somewhat gone silent. Sharing so that the groups can connect, collaborate, and learn from one another.
