Hello -

I didn't get as much feedback as I had hoped to on http://buffaloopensource.uservoice.com/,
so I'm just going to ask on this list.

Are there any new or existing projects that you want to want to work
on? Any tools or new things you want to try? I don't have any specific
ideas at this point, but I definitely want to get involved. To make
the project(s) accessible to everyone, I'm thinking more along the
lines of something that is platform independent, or at least runnable
on Linux (as it can be run for free in a VM).

Suggestions please!

Have a nice weekend -
Dave

Hi,

As for me lately, I find the Storm project fascinating. Nathan Marz owned Backtype (I think) which was a company aquired by Twitter at some point last year. https://github.com/nathanmarz/storm I really want to hack around with it and try it out, kick the tires a bit. I don't necessarily have a goal/project in mind (yet). It is just something I'm interested in.

However, I'm really open for anything the group wants to move on. I've been a non-contributor to OSS for far to long. And I'm feeling a little "newbish". So, I'm looking forward to giving back a little. If we go with the irc bot, I'm cool with that as a kick-off project.

I'd really like to start a project to kill Google Groups. Absolutely sick of it. I'm in the middle of organizing the Coworking Buffalo launch/setup right now, but it would be great to bounce some ideas off devs once that's done.

I would love a web presence, and better communication platform for a google group site for Buffalo OpenCoffee Club.

I'm on board!

What would an app that replaced google groups need to do… how would you you want to use it?

As a group member, I want to get emails from the group, send emails back to the group, and stay in touch with the people on the group.
I don't want to use the website and/or remember another password.
It's also nice to be able to control when and how many emails I get (e.g. once a day, or as they come.)

Nice-to-haves may be…
Link and respond from a twitter account…
Manage web presence from same place?
