I'm Dave Parfitt. I started writing software as a kid in the 80's,
and I'm still doing it.
See http://about.me/metadave for my heartbreaking life story. I'm cool
with most languages and technologies. I'm pretty laid back and am
looking to learn things from others.

Basic info for the group is here:
http://buffaloopensource.blogspot.com/

Please add project ideas and vote for projects here:
http://buffaloopensource.uservoice.com/forums/147921-buffalo-open-source-project-suggestions

If everyone could add a couple projects that would be great. Once we
get enough members, we'll pick the project with the most votes and
start coding. Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions!

Hey!

I've worked with a lot of open source projects from language specific
projects such as Perl and Parrot. I got into OSS through my early job
dealing with Network Monitoring Systems (MRTG, RRDtool, Cacti, Big
Brother, Zenoss, etc). I'm currently into architecting Open Data and
building APIs.

I look forward to this group and building some cool open source
projects.

Hi. I'm Jon Kiddy.

I've been a programmer for over 9 years at Roswell Park.
During that time, I've built 30+ internal applications (ASP.Net / PHP) related to clinical trials.
I tell people that "I literally code to cure cancer".

In my spare time, I've been working on my own ideas. Some for fun, some for profit.
Other than the above languages, I've toyed rather heavily with C++, Python, Ruby. Lua.

However, I'm a OSS virgin contributor. And I'm looking forward to giving back.
I learn by doing, so when I saw this group open up related to #BOCC I got excited.

You can find out a bit more about me here: http://www.jonkiddy.com

Hey Dan and Jon -
Thanks for the introductions. (Did mine come through on the list?)

We need some more ideas at http://buffaloopensource.uservoice.com. Are
there any tools you need or things you have always wanted to try out?
Also, it would be great if more experience devs can give a hand to
people just starting out.

I'm looking forward to working on cool things with you both!

I just added myself to the list before I sent out my intro, so I did not see either of your introductions. However, I was able to view them both by going directly to the Google Group and looking at past messages.

Hope that helps.

Jon

Hello hello,

Nice to meet you all. I'm currently CTO/Partner at IVR Technology
Group. I have experience in Java, ASP.NET, Python/Django, PHP, Linux,
Windows and Cisco stuff.
But my passion is in software development and hope to contribute in
any way I can. I've successfully converted the entire company from
proprietary MSFT stack to Linux open source stack so I guess it's time
for me to give back.

Later.

eric

Hello everyone!

I've dabbled in a little bit of everything, but can't really say I'm
proficient at anything. Python, Java, PHP, C++... the list goes on.
After moving up here to Buffalo, I joined this group (and a couple
others) to try to get a sense of direction. I've never really
collaborated with anyone else on a project before, and will most
likely just be lurking for a while, once the group starts on a
project.

My interests are all over the place, and I'm not entirely sure where I
want to end up some day. I'm extremely interested in web application
security auditing, but I'm also interested in web application
development. Most of the projects I've built for myself have been in
Python, but I recently decided to get comfortable with Ruby.

Matt,

How proficient are you at web application security auditing? Would you be interested in speaking at an upcoming OWASP meeting?

Thanks,

Jim
