Director Chris Smith's documentary, Collapse, featuring Michael C. Ruppert,  premiered last September at the Toronto International Film festival. This documentary film, along with Michael Ruppert's recently launched website CollapseNet (June 8th) (www.collapsenet.com), connects the dots which show that very little time is left to build 'lifeboats' centered around the relocalization of food production, essential services and community as global collapse of human industrial civilization unfolds at an accelerating rate. The unfolding mega-disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, which has only begun, has greatly shortened this timeline. The call is going out that "lifeboat" building needs to be taken to a new level immediately.

Collapse is described by critics as an early front runner for Best Documentary at the 2011 Oscars and has received stellar reviews from such places as the New York Times, Variety, The Wall Street Journal, Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, TIME Magazine, Los Angeles Times and film critic Roger Ebert.

Ruppert, a former LAPD narcotics investigator and honors graduate of UCLA, is an acclaimed and internationally recognized author of two books, lecturer and experienced investigative journalist. His first book, Crossing the Rubicon: The Decline of the American Empire at the End of the Age of Oil, is in the Harvard Business School library. The film, Collapse, and its companion book, Confronting Collapse: The Crisis of Energy and Money in a Post Peak Oil World, are causing a worldwide stir with the film having been bootlegged more than a million times around the world since its release last September.

Ruppert began his career as a journalist and author after discovering that the CIA was smuggling drugs into the country in the late 1970s. From his former newsletter, From the Wilderness, he wrote and published major exposes of criminal activity in the U.S. government and the U.S. economy. He also predicted, in great detail, the economic collapse which hit the U.S. financial markets in 2008. Many of the newer predictions he made in Collapse have come true since its release.

The Collapse DVD had a general public release on June 15th. It can be purchased from Amazon or rented from Netflix. On CollapseNet Ruppert says that he was told that Netflix ordered 4,000 copies.
