Hi everyone,

My proposal to add location-awareness functionality to XMPP has been
submitted to Google Summer of Code!

You can find it here:

I hope to work with you all soon!

Linked data, I think, would be the next step forward. Once bc has
location awareness, it can then link locations up to real-world maps.
So basically I see this as a new feature for implementation after
basic functionality is implemented, as a sort of optional add-on to
the XMPP location component that this project proposes (optional
seeing as how performance would require locally storing a global
OpenStreetMap or comparable, which would be very large indeed - 21 GB
apparently).

Looks like they ran out of money. Oh well. I'm still interested in
contributing, though perhaps without as much emphasis on keeping to
the pace set by the program. If I'm going to contribute, I'll probably
start once exams and graduation finishes up in mid-May. Is there still
interest for me to devote my time specifically to the location
features or is there something that would be more preferred for me to
work on - bug fixes, that test framework that was a proposal idea,
other features?

Thanks guys,
Ari Becker

Hi Ari,

Great that you can still help out. The best bet will be to keep watching the issues for the web client on github/buddyclod/buddycloud-webclient.

Also we have a bunch of interesting tasks on out Trello pages: https://trello.com/board/webclient/4e8b28e8650fe3000032fe18%22

Looking forward to hacking with you.
