Friday evening, January 1, at 7 PM, at the Franklin Park Conservatory
Beginning the evening with our traditional two sits, with kinkin in between, followed by chanting, then, after a pause, a time for sharing personal favorite readings or chants, music, and other individual expressions of our practice together, and setting out both our gratitude for blessings from past years as well as intentions for the coming year. We've also been thinking that it would be nice if people brought simple snacks, or tea, to share.
The meeting room space at the Conservatory would work nicely for sitting and chanting, and they open out onto a courtyard that can be used for procession with candles or votive lamps in setting intentions for the New Year. The Conservatory maintains 24 hour security with well-lighted parking. On that date and time, we will essentially have the facility to ourselves, so there will be an added opportunity for me, as an associate of the Conservatory to offer a quiet guided walk through the courtyards and gardens, which are beautifully lit at night.
Additional information and details will be coming, including directions for driving to the Conservatory. If you have any questions email Don Brewer Calm...@aol.com
Sitting and walking meditation, Touching the Earth Ceremony, vegetarian potluck meal, singing and dharma discussion will occur during the day of mindfulness practice, in the tradition of Plum Village.

Peace Schools have been an integral part of the Center since its founding in 1982. Designed initially to help children envision a Peaceable Future, our Peace Schools have grown to include parents and adults in order to strengthen our impact on children and families. This year we will explore how the many ways in which we are different from others in our community as well as the many things we have in common can help us build a more peaceful world.
We need volunteers who can teach, assist teachers, and help with the overall program! If you're interested in volunteering, please email me ASAP at au...@interfaithcenterforpeace.org. There will be one mandatory training in January.
Are you interested in attending as an individual or do you have children you'd like to send?
Children and adults are welcome; children must have completed kindergarten. Cost: $10 per person or $25 for families of 3 or more people We will mix games, music, and fun for learning about our diverse community! Adults and children will be together for some activities; at other times they will be in separate classes. Breakfast and lunch will be available.
Be blessed!

Here in this body are the sacred rivers. Here are the sun and moon as well as all the pilgrimage places. I have not encountered another temple as blissful as my own body. ~ Saraha
Meditation is often approached as a psychological or emotional process. Those aspects are important, but there is no practice and no enlightenment without our bodies.
Many of the obstacles in meditation are the result of not participating fully with all of our senses and our bodies. Fully embodying ourselves can clear away mental and emotional obstacles, free up energy, and provide essential positive motivation for effective daily practice.
This workshop will provide hands-on, feet-on, full-body exercises for cultivating energy and awareness. We will help you work with difficulties in sitting posture, and introduce gentle movement, standing and walking methods of meditation.
No special experience, strength, coordination, or athletic ability is necessary to participate fully in this workshop. People from all backgrounds and all levels of experience are welcome.

People come to meditation for countless reasons and with an equal number of hopes and expectations about what will result. In the various Buddhist traditions we find a veritable buffet of practices to choose from. There is a natural tendency to conceptualize what occurs and we make an effort to conform or judge our experience by the ideals espoused in the literature describing these practices.
But at the end of the day, when we strip away all these ideas we find that regardless of what practice we are doing, it simply creates the opportunity to know what’s really going on in any given moment. And it’s in those moments that ‘enlightenment’ occurs. And so we make efforts in creating the conditions for those moments to arise.
This weekend will offer a practical approach to practice that explores the human condition, not deny it, and use whatever arises to fuel knowing. We will be using the supports as a framework and employ a variety of classic and unconventional techniques to explore and discover what’s really going on.
