Call for Volunteers this Christmas (Bodhi!) Season
Bethlehem on Broad brings Christian and Jewish congregations from all over Columbus together to (among other things) serve an all-day Christmas meal (on real china, with presents, medical care and TLC) to those who have nowhere place else to go on that day.
I have served as a cook, gift wrapper and room prepared at the meal host location, First Congregations Church, for many years.
So many other Columbus area spiritual communities are involved – I hope you and your sangha will become involved, too.
Would you be willing to attend a volunteer organization meeting in the Board Room at the First Congregational Church on Saturday 3 October at 1 pm? Volunteers are needed for the period December 11 – 25. Jobs might include: wrapping gifts for Santa to give the guests (December 17-25), staffing the Free Clothing Store (before the main event) staffing the Food Box Giveaway (Saturday before Christmas), vegetarian cooking (at your place or at the Church).
If you don’t want to come out to work, maybe your sangha could sponsor a canned food drive, or a drive for toiletries, warm socks or baby items?
A VERY URGENT NEED IS FOR A SMALL GROUP TO CLEAN FIRST CONGREGATIONAL’S KITCHEN AND DINING AREA EACH EVENING FOR THE WEEK OR SO BEFORE THE EVENT.
Please open up your compassion and put it to action in this ecumenical event – which, by the way combines together the Christmas events for all the downtown shelters and service organizations! |
