Greetings Dharma Brothers and Sisters,
As you may have heard, the Interfaith Association of Central Ohio (IACO) is in need of a third Buddhist member of the Interfaith Council. The Interfaith Council is the governing board of IACO.
BCO, the umbrella group for Buddhist organizations in central Ohio, is the nominating authority for the Buddhist representatives to the Council. The other two current members representing Buddhism are Ernestine Jackson and myself. IACO is an excellent organization that works to engage the different faith traditions in healthy dialogue and activities that bring about mutual cooperation and understanding. IACO plans and sponsors various events throughout the year in this spirit.
The Council is not a huge time commitment, but it is important that the members do attend the quarterly meetings. In addition, the council members generrally serve on one additional committee within IACO. There are some great people involved with this organization, and the Council member will have a chance to work with them and get to know them.
Please consider volunteering for this important but enjoyable position. We want to be sure that Buddhism is fully represented (each religious tradition has three representatives to the Council). As we continue to shape the form that Buddhism will take in the midwestern United States in the 21st Century, we need to be active in the interfaith context. Allowing Buddhism to be underrepresented in IACO will not reflect well on our community, and will keep us from being as important a force as we can be in general religious and interreligious understanding.
If you would like to volunteer, please submit your name to Seth Josephson (
seth.jo...@gmail.com). Seth will organize a meeting of the nominating committee of BCO, and this meeting will meet with the volunteer(s) to officially elect one to serve on the Council. If there are multiple volunteers, the nominating committee will choose one based on our understanding of how IACO will be best served.
Thank you. If you have any questions about IACO, please feel free to contact me.
