Visakha Puja - "Buddha's Birthday" Service and Potluck
Please join the Buddhist Network of Central Ohio for its 8th annual “Buddha’s Birthday” ceremony; this year at ILLIO Studio, 13 E. Tulane in Clintonville (just up the street from the Cup O Joe). 1:00-3:00pm.
Known as Visakha, Vesak, Wesak, or Buddha’s Birthday, is the oldest known Buddhist holiday. It commemorates the historical Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and death and is celebrated internationally on the full moon in the month of May. (This year the full moon is on the night of the 21st)
Glenn Gustafson of the Columbus Center for Pragmatic Buddhism will lead a meditation and an inclusive service. People new to Buddhist practice are welcome. If you or a member of your sangha would like to participate in the service please email me at glenn.gustafson@pragmaticbuddhism.org.
After the service we’ll gather outside for a potluck. If you can, please bring meatless dishes to share, or just come and there will be food.
All ages welcome!
We will also be collecting canned goods and non-perishables at the event to donate to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. Please encourage your members to bring food to donate to the less fortunate as an act of compassion on this most important festival.
We hope that you will be able to join and share in a sense of one-ness with the greater Buddhist community in Central Ohio and the world.
