We just sold our house in the US and without homeowners insurance we can not have our smaller policies with our insurance company.  We are in need of renters insurance for our apartment in Budapest and storage insurance for our household goods in Minnesota.  Does anyone have any advise?

Hi Kim,

we have a really nice insurance broker in Budapest, who speaks very good English and comes home to you to sort out everything - you don't need to go anywhere.

Agnes Meszaros
K&H Biztosító Zrt.
+36 30 99 21 121

Unfortunately, can't help with the USA insurance.

Hope this could help

When we moved into our first rental in Budapest 2 years ago I
struggled to find a company who would insure our staff as we didn't
own the place. Eventually I found Union Insurance and secured our
stuff. They are an Austrian company. http://www.unionbiztosito.hu/for_english_users
I imagine they should have English speaking brokers.

Forgot to say, that Agnes is able to insure whatever you like - let it be just your belongings, through K&H. I think (although I'm not too sure) that we got a bit of a discount because the rest of the flat is insured by coincidence with K&H too (by the owner).

Hi Kim,

We had auto and renter's insurance through State Farm before we moved
here, and after we sold the car and moved we were able to maintain our
renter's insurance for our storage stuff by giving our agent a
friend's address in the state where our stuff is stored (Illinois).
They needed an address for us in the state, although they knew that we
don't live at that address. I got the impression that the agent was
bending the rules for us, but you might try emailing your former agent
to see if they'll do something like this for you.

I hope it helps!

Best,
Corrin
