Good afternoon,

I visited a couple of fabric stores near Oktogon, but none of the sales people knew where to find a needle and thread. I'd like to do some repairs on my son's clothing, but have no idea where to find these.  Thoughts?

Thanks,
Sylvie

There is a small haberdashery/ textile shop opposite of Atrium at Mechwart ter The staff might not speak English though. Or you could try the shop at Feny utca market ( mammut).

Hi Sylvie,

There's a sewing and needle store near Oktogon. If you walk toward Király u. on the right hand side and keep an eye on the shopwindows you will surely not miss it as it has a quite huge one. (If you need help with interpretation we can agree to meet there and I can help out as I live next door.)

Best,

Anikó

Aargh. I thought I'd heard of one near there, and I thought I'd walked the block, but not far enough (my son was complaining. He'd worn shoes I told him were too small, and of course they hurt, alas).

I'll check there on Tuesday. I'll let you know on the language. Taking Hungarian classes this summer was the best gift. Getting around is much easier now.

............
Cheers,

OK, good luck! It's a good way to improve your Hungarian if you have a chance to put theory into practice (congrats on your progress so far!:). However, if you need help, let me know.

The Röltex shops usually have things like that. It's a chain. I know of ones on Kiraly utca & in West End, but I'm sure there are more. They don't usually speak English, but if you have a smart phone, you can always google a picture of it and show them. I advocate learning Hungarian, but in a pinch, it always works. I have also been in the sewing supplies shop that Anikó recommended & they for sure have everything.

I recommend the Röltex at Feny Ut market. Seems to have everything you could need. If it's not display she may have it in a draw :-) good luck

At patchwork near oktogon you can find almost anything for sewing!
In Westend 2nd floor or close to nyugati on szent istvan blvd. On kiraly utca there is a sewing store.
I can help with sewing too :)
