Can anyone tell me what baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is called in Hungarian? And where can I buy it? I did manage to find baking powder (sutopor) but not soda.
Also in the flour aisle, which one is the regular cake flour ? (not the self raising one)

Hi Tahira, it is called szódabikarbóna in Hungarian, and has kitchen as well as bathroom (cleaning) versions, the latter of which are not suitable for humans.
Kind regards,

The first one is called szodabikarbona, you can fnd it usually amond the spices and herbs in small package.

The usuall white wheat flour has a sign BL 55 ( sima liszt) on it, the other one that is for breads is BL 80.
There is a third one, called retesliszt, is for other type of baking I never use that.

Good luck

Szódabikarbonát is baking soda.
I recommend to search in Tesco, Auchan or other hypermarket.

Flour:
BL-55 fine white flour (i use this for cake, muffins, pizza etc.), BL-80 white flour for bread, BL-112 half white flour, BFF-55 for some pastry products (for retes), AD - semolina, GL-200 graham flour.

This number (55, 80 112 etc.) represents the ash content of wheat after technological process.

Hi

You can also buy szóda bikarbóna (baking soda) at any pharmacy and it is cheaper than at the supermarket, and they usually sell them in bigger packages there.

Finom liszt is the name that is usually on the package o the kind of flour you are looking for.

Good luck,

Bori
