Hi
Does anyone know if/where I can find a list of state English-Hungarian bilingual elementary schools (or schools with bilingual options/program)?  So far I've heard of schools in Budakeszi, 3rd, 5th and 6th districts.  Are there any more?
Thanks
Nina

There must be more because I know there is one near Pasaréti tér - Szabo Lőrinc maybe? And one called Szabo Magda too. I don't know about a list either, but I would also be interested in knowing!

I remember seeing a list on the Budapest Moms web...

Somewhere on that page there is a link to an excel file (if I remember well).

Hope it helps!

Hi Nina,

There are lots more but you should really look into them because in most cases it just means they teach subjects such as arts and PE in English and have 5 English lessons/per week.
These are the ones I found, I haven't seen any real list execpt one at the bilingual schools commity/foundation but they have all bilingual school not just Eng-Hun and not just the Budapest ones. http://kettannyelvu.com/kie/?p=tip_altalanos

9th district - Körösi Csoma Sándor
14. - Városligeti M-A alt.iskola
22. - Bartok www.bartokiskola.hu and www.kossuthisk.hu
18. - www.kapocsiskola.hu
16. - www.lemhenyi.sulinet.hu
19. - Remenyseg...something, its a christian school
2.  - Szabó Lörinc
17. - Újlak utcai alt. iskola

There is also Szent Benedek in the 11th district (no school fees and a really good school but its a Catholic school)

Goodluck! :)

Krúdy Gyula Általános Iskola

Óbudai Nagy László Általános Iskola – they are both cooperating with Szőlőtő Alapítvány which is a foundation for a bilingual educational program that is integrated into classes of regular state schools (even though the schools are state schools, a tuition fee has to be paid for the foundation)

Thanks very much everyone for all your help.
We're not actually at school stage yet, but I'm still (!) thinking of my moving house project - and I thought it would be worth bearing in mind schools when choosing where we're going to move to.
Cheers

Same here Nina, the Hungarian state schools including the Krudy/ Szoloto school thought I was crazy showing up for their Open Days when my  kid is only 4 but you have to think ahead especially if it involves moving houses etc :)

Check www.josuli.hu. They do a list of schools and there are reviews from parents. It's in Hungarian but Google does a pretty good job to translate it.
Hope this helps

Hello Ladies,

A few (5?) years ago I participated in the annual conference of state bilingual primary schools. Every year it is hosted by Karinthy Bilingual School in the 4th district (Káposztásmegyer).  http://karinthyisk-web.sharepoint.com/Pages/Kettannyelvu_oktatas.aspx

At the time, the president of the Association of Bilingual Primary Schools (http://kettannyelvu.com/kie/) was their elementary school principal, Turnerné Gadó Ágnes. She is a very professional and knowledgeable person on the subject matter, so I recommend talking to her if you have any specific questions on varying teaching methodologies, current regulations, etc. You can also find a list of member schools on the Association's page (http://kettannyelvu.com/kie/?p=tip_altalanos).

This year, the conference is held on March 27 at Karinthy (starts at 10.00), so if you speak Hungarian and have the time, it might be a good source of first-hand information on what to expect for the future of state-funded bilingual education (or the lack of) in the future.
