Hi,

I know we've listed good kindergartens many times on this list, but most of them are on Buda.

Can you recommand any place that is in Pest, district 13, or 5, and they speak both English and Hungarian? Can one join such place during spring time as well?

Thanks,
Barbi

Hi! I have heard good things on this list (I have no personal experience) with this one in District 5.

I found one in the 4th district, called Mini Klub:

Don't know anything about them, though!

There is/was one close to Jaszai M. tér  Not sure it is still there. It was a small private kindergarden. I went there when we lived on the pest side. I'll try and look up the name.

My daughter goes to Belvárosi Játékóvoda by Jaszai Mari ter (that’s the one Adri mentioned) and we could not be happier. She is in “preschool prep” group called the Panthers, where all instruction is in English, and the kids are mostly bilinguals. The other groups have mostly Hungarian-speaking kids who get English for a few hours a day, but the teachers almost all speak English, and in general, it is a very friendly place for non-Hungarian-speaking parents and kids. Depending on the proportion of English to Hungarian you would like your child to have, and on the child’s age, you would be able to choose a group that’s right for you. Also, if it matters, the Hungarian-mostly groups are a bit cheaper, but even the all-English group that my daughter goes to is way cheaper than most options in Buda (last month we paid around 115,000HUF, I think, including food). The program is great (the do excursions every Wednesday, there is optional swimming and ice skating in the winter, gym and drama activities, and we are eagerly anticipating a sleepover party for the kids in May)
To get in touch with the school, you should use
pres...@jatekovoda.hu – it is the email that is guaranteed to be responded to in English, and the teacher, Zita, will be able to direct you further.
Good luck,
Olga

Hello,
they have hungarian-english group in Pitypang óvoda at Üteg u.30. It's very close to Béke tér, good connection by public transport.
Cheers,
Petra

Dear Melanie,

We will not need that information for another 4 years, but... would be good to know what kind of complex procedure you're talking about and whether there are things we need to consider to be eligible for a school like that. I'm thinking about whether our kid needs to go to a bilingual or English language kindergarten after the nursery since so far he has everything in Hungarian and only has me and occasional others using English with him.

thanks and sorry to highjack the discussion - also interested in the answers about ovodas.

Dear Mums
Our babysitter Erika is looking for some work with another family. She is a retired nurse who is incredibly reliable, kind and efficient. She has worked for us from over three years and looks after my two boys (aged 2 and 5) twice a week after nursery. She has never been late and has only ever cancelled once due to illness. She has also worked with other families, including one who had a baby and a 2 year old and looked after the children for whole days sometimes. The only problem for some families might be that she prefers not to drive and she only speaks Hungarian. My Hungarian is not brilliant but she is patient with my efforts and we manage to communicate quite well! She lives in Pest (near Keleti) so a Pest-based family is easier for her but she will travel any distances and previously worked in Buda.
I would like her to continue working for us two afternoons per week from about 4pm, but she is free during the daytime and especially mornings.
Her email addres is: ER...@tvn.hu and her phone number is: 0036 204412100

Many thanks and best wishes
Melanie
