Hi There,
Professor SN called me on one of these days.
After a while he started to talk about the same liberal-communist bullshit of his, (here quoted from his message below, that is “…let the participation in BPH3 events free…”), in line of his idealistic neo-Marxist principals. He was dreaming even of a hash mutiny, simply by refusing the payment of any hash fees, whatsoever.
First I got really upset and just closed the phone, immediately.
Free for the hare(s), it’s all right, but what for the hell does he want completely undermine BPH3, sacrificing our group on the altar of his lunatic ideals, risking both the spirit and the finance of the Hash? How does he dare??
Later I turned my anger into composing a new hash song out of this incident, especially and only for him and his followers. (Well, the tune is already well known…)
THE STINGY HASHER’S SONG
He’s been a wild hasher for many a years
And spent all his money on hash fee and beer.
And now he returns with no money at all,

We should stop collecting money for the volunteer work of the hares and I am fully convinced the BPH3 spirit will return.
Thus let the participation in BPH3 events free. This would be the best promotion of the Hash.
We should have a general meeting discussing this issue as was suggested by many of us.

But what a hell a running and walking group needs to collect money for while everybody can buy the own beers as the own meals also pay individually.Besides, this is illegal in this country, So might somebody will report it sooner or later, than no more Hash at all. That you guys aiming?!The Hash spirit doesn`t depend on finance, luckily. 😀
So Stiff Nipples is right, participants wish to collect their money, can freely do so. We surely want nothing of it.

Dear Rabies,
You are confused again. So let me clear it for you.
1./ The socialist approach is to take away people's money and redistribute it in accordance with the collector/s need. This is what the communist parties did and this is what you are proposing. Be honest and do not put a misleading title on your approach.
2./ I am suggesting that there is no need for any money redistribution, and everybody pays whatever he/she consumes. This is a democratic approach since each and every person makes his/her own decision, what is his or her preference. No enforcement for paying for a service that the person does not want or do not need.
3./ If you and others want to collect money and buy beer collectively, that should be based on individual decision. Anyone who does not want to participate in this has the right not to do so for the following reasons:
Setting the trail is voluntary work; therefore, collecting money for this contribution cannot be justified. Thus participating in hash should be free. (As I mentioned before, this would be the best promotion of the Hash.) Hashers, who are choosing not to participate in the collective beer buying for any reason, are free to do so.
In order to keep this option open. I will not pay for my hash attendance in the future, or at least until the end of this year, and I am encouraging all BPH3 Hashers, in case of their agreement, to do the same.

PS: I understand that heavy drinkers usually get extra free beer/s on the expense of moderate and no drinkers, when the beer has been bought collectively. So I am volunteering to cover your extra beer, what you are fighting for, and want you to be paid by low-income people and students.

In my experience with over 300 Kennels internationally, there are multiple models for covering H3 expenses:
- Hash fees paid at each run by those who attend (by far the most common)
- Yearly subscriptions
- Periodic membership dues
- Pay-As-You-Go
I've started two H3 clubs with NO FEES whatsoever. The objective was low overhead, as our Hares were getting so overloaded with tasks they stopped volunteering. Anyone can organise whatever they want - beer, food, haberdash, etc. - and charge accordingly for it, but the bare bones mismanagement is only responsible for the Hareline and promotion. No HashCash, no HashBeer. We have less bells and whistles (like T-Shirts and circles) but we also have less hassle. We started out with email-only promotion, but eventually I provided a WWW presence free (until someone decided that Meatup.com was more useful to him, so he pays for that.) We've been going this way for 15 years....
So as they say "There are no rules."
One issue I do see is that some Kennels that collect per-event fees end up sitting a substantial bank balance, either because the Hash Fee is inappropriate or some are content donating their expenses to an effort they love. IMHO Hashing is non-profit and an effort should be made to get these monies back to the members, not horde it for a rainy day.
That said, as long as I consume, as a visitor I'm happy to pay an per-event fee, if that's the kennel's norm. It's usually the best value for money around.
