Hi everyone,
This email is a promise I'm keeping which I made to the "management" of therestaurant tonight. The restaurant's name is Koleves (Stone Soup), on the corner of Dob and Kazinczky utcas. Over the past year, I've eaten there many times; the food was consistently good as was the service. However, during the past 6 or so months, the service and quality of the food has not been what it was. But, I decided to try it again tonight.
I will not go into the specific details, but the service was not just your typical poor Hungarian service but it was even worse. The waitresses were the rudest I've yet encountered in Budapest. When I complained, the waitress told me that I didn't understand the "politics" of waitressing and that things are done differently in Hungary. I didn't know the "politics" of waitressing was to completely ignore the customer for just over 45 minutes after she finished her meal. I didn't know that the "politics" of waitressing was for the customer to run after the waitress to ask for another glass of wine and maybe see a dessert menu. And, I didn't know that the "politics" of waitressing was to hurl insults at the customer because she complained. (I didn't raise my voice and was calm throughout the encounter).
So, I ask all of you not to ever go there in the future. I've never passed on an email like this one, but this particular incident was the worse. I wish Hungarians in the service industry would learn that without customers, there is no job. I realize that not all service industry work places are like this, but this particular incident took the cake.
Please don't go to the Koleves Restaurant!

WOW! This is so hard to believe Erika. Kovleves is listed as one of the top restaurants in Hungary in the Michilin Guide and all of the "beautiful" people go there. I believe Michilin gives it three stars.........LOL! At least you got out without having soup dumped in your lap and you weren't poisoned. Better luck at the next place.
