installing on mac OSx 10.12.6

hello,
I am trying to run bucky on a mac osx (10.12.6). when I go to the most recent executable (from 2015), it downloads as bucky.dms rather than bucky.exe. I cannot get it to unpack or run from this version. this appears (upon google searching) to be some kind of precursor to a zipped file.

when I download to a different mac, OS x v 10.10.5, the file bucky.exe downloads and runs fine.

Is the currently compiled version not compatible with 10.12.6? how can I get it to run on this OS?

It looks like Safari is changing the file name. Perhaps you won't have the issue if you use Chrome or another browser.

But it's very easy to fix: edit the file name to remove ".dms" and that's it.

I just tried to download the bucky executable (from here) from Safari on a Mac OSX, and I got a file named bucky.dms indeed, just like you did.

Then I downloaded the file with this command in the terminal:

curl http://www.stat.wisc.edu/~ane/bucky/v1.4/built-1.4.4/x86_macos_10.10/bucky > bucky

and I got the exact same file (with a different name): the command "diff bucky bucky.dms" showed no difference.

So you can safely remove the extension ".dms" to the file that you got. You might need to make the file executable too, as Safari didn't do that:

chmod u+x bucky

and try a basic check that it works:

./bucky --version
