Food for Thought...
Joshua sent men into Jericho on a reconnaissance to see how powerful
it was.
The word, “Jericho” comes from an ancient word that means “scent” as
Jericho was known, at that time, for its spices.
Man’s behavior also gives off a “scent”, one that can be perceived by
those who know about such things, and so a man’s scent, caused by his
behavior, is his Jericho. This is meant in the literal sense, not
figuratively or allegorically. Some people will tell you it is meant
to be only figurative or allegorical, but such people are in
ignorance. It’s meant to be literal.
Now, Jericho was regarded as the lynch-pin of the area in Joshua’s
day. There were seven other nations in the region, and if Jericho
survived, so would the seven nations, and if Jericho fell, so would
they in turn.
The names of the seven nations in question are each associated with a
particular emotion. The word, “emotion” comes from “emote” which
means, “to move backward”. Each of the seven nations was noted for a
particular negative trait that it’s citizens possessed. Likewise, each
of us possesses certain negative traits that, by their nature, prevent
us from advancing.
Therefore, if we examine our behavior and change our scent, our
Jericho, then the seven nations, the seven emotions that control us -
will fall, and we will advance.
