Good evening!

Last week I was in contact with you about the JCHS band fundraising event, but now I would like to address you as a fellow citizen of this city.  As you are aware from my note last week, it was determined that HOAs do not have the authority to override a city ordinance.  As it stands right now, if a subdivision posts a “no soliciting” sign, then this does include all school groups, non-profits, scouts, etc.    So, as of now it is “unlawful” for  these groups, or individuals to solicit in these areas.  I do not think that is what any of us had in mind when we placed these signs in our neighborhoods.  We all thought there was an exception, but apparently that is only for the registration for solicitation.

I was told last night at the city council work session that there was simply nothing that the city council could do.  The only action that could be taken was for the neighborhoods to take down these signs.  This is a great idea if a group like the band is doing a onetime event, but this does not work for the majority of our kids fundraisers as we all know they do these when they get the chance.  I just feel like there should be a way to protect us from adult solicitors/companies while still making an allowance for youth organizations.  We all know that our property values are strongly supported by the great schools we have in these areas and these schools have great programs, but unfortunately we also know that funding is a problem without extra help from all of us.

On Monday, September 23 at 6pm there is a city council meeting.  I am personally on the agenda for that meeting.  I will be formally requesting that the city council place an exception/exemption on the ordinance for youth organizations.  MUCH support is needed to show our city council that this is not just a band problem, but a problem for all our organizations.  And that neighborhoods do support this exception.  Please, if you feel as I do and many of your neighbors, spread this need to show up and show support out to your neighborhood.  Please wear school colors, organizational spirit wear or just bring your clapping hands to show them that we all desire this exception to the city ordinance for our kids!

So to repeat, LOTS of attendance for support is desperately needed this coming Monday at 6pm in city hall.  Please assist me in getting the word out in your area.  I think the key to this is to show that this is what we want!

Thank you for your consideration in this matter,

Staci Krupp
